Nokia fans worldwide have been excited ever since the first Nokia 9 rumours started doing the rounds. Earlier in September, the upcoming flagship Nokia smartphone was spotted on a Canadian certification website, hinting at a possible launch very soon. As suggested by recently leaked images of the smartphone, Nokia 9 could be the world’s first smartphone to feature a penta-lens camera system at the rear. New renders of the Nokia 9 have now hit the web, revealing a dual-curved display.

Nokia 9: New Images Reveal a Dual-Curved Display

The alleged images of the Nokia 9, which have been obtained by Quansong Technology, reveal the Nokia 9 will feature a dual-curved display similar to Samsung flagship smartphones. We can also see that the top and bottom bezels on the Nokia 9 are relatively larger when compared to some of the other 2018 flagship Android smartphones. This could mean that the upcoming Nokia flagship will not have as high a screen-to-body ratio like the OPPO and Vivo flagships.

That being said, it is still a slight improvement when compared to the Nokia 8 Sirocco, which also sports a dual-curved display. However, the curved edges on the Nokia 9 appear to be more pronounced when compared to the company’s current flagship smartphone. Apart from a dual-curved design, these new images seem to confirm that the Nokia 9 will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Nokia 8 Sirocco (review) does not have one either, so this isn’t really a surprise. You need to use a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, which should be bundled in the box with the handset.

Nokia 9: Rumoured Specifications, Features

Like most other flagship Android smartphones that have been released this year, the Nokia 9 is expected to run on Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset clocked at up to 2.8 GHz with an Adreno 630 GPU. Some rumours suggest the smartphone could come equipped with a 5.9-inch OLED display featuring Quad HD+ resolution and an in-display fingerprint sensor. In terms of memory, the smartphone is tipped to be available in two memory configurations – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 256GB storage. Since HMD Global did not include a microSD card slot in the Nokia 8 Sirocco, it remains to be seen if the Nokia 9 will offer memory expansion support.

The key highlight of the Nokia 9 will be its penta-lens camera system. While the details have not been confirmed yet, it is rumoured that the penta-lens setup will comprise of 12MP + 12MP + 16MP + 16MP + 8MP sensors. Only the 12MP sensors are expected to feature optical image stabilisation. While the smartphone will have a total of five cameras at the rear, it will only have a single 12MP camera for selfies. Connectivity-wise, you can expect the Nokia 9 to support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, NFC, USB 3.1 Type-C port, and Dual 4G VoLTE. Keeping the lights on could be a 4150mAh capacity battery with fast charging as well as wireless charging support. In terms of software, the smartphone could launch with the latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system out of the box.

Nokia 9: Expected Price in India

The Nokia 9 is likely to be priced in India somewhere under the Rs.60,000 mark. In China, the smartphone is rumoured to start at 4,799 yuan, which translates to Rs.50,600 based on the current exchange rate. While HMD Global is yet to confirm a specific launch date, recent leaks have suggested the smartphone could be officially unveiled sometime next month.
