Samsung launched the Galaxy A8 (2018) in December 2017 with the Android 7.1 Nougat operating system out of the box. Last year, the smartphone received an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo. Samsung recently released an Android Pie roadmap for Galaxy smartphones, which revealed the Galaxy A8 (2018) would receive the Android Pie update in April this year. The mid-range smartphone has now been spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database running on the Android Pie operating system, suggesting the rollout will begin on time.

Galaxy A8 (2018) Android Pie Update Expected to Roll Out in April

Samsung rolls out only two major OS upgrades for its mid-range and flagship Galaxy smartphones. Since the Galaxy A8 (2018) has already received one major OS upgrade, the Android Pie update will be the last major OS upgrade for the smartphone. As you can see in the screenshot below, the Galaxy A8 (2018) scored 1,533 points in the single-core and 4,321 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench. Both scores are more or less in line with the average scores attained by the smartphone on Geekbench. This suggests the update has been optimized quite well and will likely be ready to roll out within the next few weeks. However, as revealed by the update roadmap shared by Samsung recently, the actual rollout is expected to begin only in April.

As with any major OS update, it will take a few weeks for Samsung to complete the rollout process. Initially, the update will only be available for a small number of users. Apart from the usual Android Pie goodies, the update is also expected to bring an updated UI, although it remains to be seen if the mid-range smartphone will get Samsung’s new One UI. The latest version of Samsung’s custom UX layer brings improvements to one-handed usage, an all-new design language, night theme, and more.

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) features a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 2220 pixels Full HD+ resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It runs on an Exynos 7885 octa-core processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM. Rest of its key features include a 16MP rear camera, 16MP + 8MP dual selfie cameras, and a 3000mAh battery with fast charging support.
