Earlier this year, Vivo showed the tech world what its actual flagship smartphone looks like. The Chinese smartphone maker launched Vivo NEX with a notch-less display, a mechanical pop-up camera, an under-display fingerprint sensor, and a screen sound casting technology. The smartphone maker is now working on the next iteration of the NEX lineup dubbed Vivo NEX 2. Vivo NEX 2 might feature a double-sided screen design making the pop-up mechanism obsolete.

Vivo NEX 2 to come with a double-sided screen design

Recently, a live image of the upcoming Vivo NEX 2 surfaced online revealing most of the design aspects. As you can see in the image, the front of the device looks pretty much similar to the first generation of NEX smartphone. Like Vivo NEX, the next iteration will feature a full-screen display with ultra narrow bezels on the sides. Although, we can still see a small chin at the bottom. The thing which is quite interesting in the leaked image of the alleged Vivo NEX 2 is the addition of dual-display. If you look at the image carefully, there is a secondary screen at the back with a high aspect ratio of 16:9. Just below the secondary screen, there is a Vivo branding. At the top, you’ll notice a semi-circular dual camera setup accompanied by an LED.

Right next to the camera setup, there is another circular cut-out. This might be the third camera sensor giving Vivo NEX 2 a triple camera setup. Since many new smartphones these days seem to be offering triple rear cameras or more, three cameras on the back of Vivo NEX 2 is not all that surprising.

One of the key features of Vivo NEX was the addition of a mechanical pop-up camera. With the dual-screen design, the brand eliminates the need for front-facing cameras. Users will be able to click self-portraits using the secondary screen and rear camera setup. Apart from that, we might actually be able to use the dual-display concept in more than one way. For instance, we can use the other display for game button emulation, Always On Display and various other things to enhance the device’s overall playability. Since the authenticity of the leaked image of the upcoming Vivo NEX 2 could not be confirmed, it is advisable to take the leak with a pinch of salt.

Vivo NEX 2 Specifications, Availability

As mentioned earlier, Vivo NEX 2 will come with a full-screen display having minimum bezels on the sides. Considering the leaks, the device could also come with a secondary display at the back. In terms of performance, the device will run on the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset. However, Qualcomm will announce its next-gen Snapdragon 8150 mobile platform. It seems like the company might settle for a generation old chipset. The device might also come with a 22.5W Super Fast charging support. We still don’t have any solid information for the rest of the aspects.

Coming to the availability, Vivo is expected to unveil the NEX 2 smartphone next month on December 04. This would be a great timeline for the company since Christmas and Double Twelve festival is right around the corner. There’s high chance that Vivo NEX 2 price will fall between 4,000 Yuan (roughly INR 40,000) and 5,000 Yuan (roughly INR 50,000). Since the expected launch date is nearing, we might see more leaks and rumors in the coming week.
