Samsung Galaxy S7 Active launched in the US; will be exclusive to AT&T


Continuing its tradition of launching the “Active” branded versions of its flagship devices for AT&T, Samsung has announced the launch of its latest offering, the Galaxy S7 Active in the U.S.

The fourth iteration in the Active series, the Galaxy S7 Active now incorporates a shatter resistant display apart from being IP68 dust and water resistant. The shatter resistant display is designed to protect the phone from falls from up to a height of up to 5 feet on a flat surface. The water resistant capabilities of the phone lets it remain functional ever after being immersed in 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes.

As for specs, the phone gets a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels. Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 820 quad-core chip with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The phone comes with 32GB of internal storage. MicroSD cards of up to 200GB are supported.

The imaging department is taken care of by a 12-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel fixed focus camera at the front. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, 3G, GPS, GLONASS, Bluetooth V4.0, NFC and Wi-Fi. The phone also comes with a fingerprint sensor.  There is a 4,000 mAh battery under the hood.

The S7 Active will be sold via AT&T online and offline stores. There are two contract options. The first one is for 24 months where you pay USD 33.13 a month and the second option is a 30-month long contract that will set you back by USD 26.50 a month. The effective price of the device is around the USD800 mark (Rs.53,000).

The Galaxy S7 Active is slated to go on sale starting Friday, June 10. It will be available in three colour options Sandy Gold, Camo Green and Titanium Gray.
