Chinese manufacturer OnePlus has officially announced that a beta build of Android Nougat for its latest flagship, the OnePlus 3, will be available to users starting this month. The final release however is expected to roll out to users by OTA (over-the-air) updates by the end of the year.
Brian Yoon, Head of Software at OnePlus, confirmed the same to Engadget, also adding that once all the issues from the beta build have been ironed out, the final release would take place. This news comes just a day after ZTE, the Chinese manufacturer, announced that the Android Nougat update on its Axon 7 smartphone would be available come January, and it looks like OnePlus has beat ZTE to it.
OnePlus has also announced that its previous handset, the OnePlus 2, will receive the Nougat update also soon. However, the exact date hasn’t been mentioned as yet. A recent Geekbench test showed a OnePlus handset running Android Nougat.
However, there’s sad news for OnePlus X and OnePlus One users. These smartphones will not be receiving the Nougat builds since these smartphones’ chipsets cannot support certain graphic requirements in Android 7.0. OnePlus’ upcoming smartphone, the OnePlus 3T, on the other hand, will be available running Nougat out-of-the-box when it launches on November 15.
