Gionee extend their smartphone portfolio with the S9 launch

As promised by the Chinese smartphone vendor, Gionee has announced the S9, its latest smartphone in China today. One of the striking features of the device is that it comes with dual rear shooters. At the back, there is a 13-megapixel Sony sensor which is supported by a 5-megapixel Samsung sensor which can shoot images with depth of field blur effects.

The Gionee S9 sports a metal unibody design, packs a 5.5-inch Full HD display, and a 13-megapixel front-facing camera. It is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor, runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with Amigo OS 3.2 on top. The smartphone is fuelled by a non-removable 3,000 mAh battery and also has a fingerprint scanner which is embedded in the home button.

Other hardware includes 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 64GB of internal storage space that can be expanded further up to 128GB using a microSD card. However, the device comes with a Hybrid SIM slot which means you have to forgo one SIM card to accommodate the microSD card. The smartphone is available in gold, rose gold and black colours and will be available for sale in China from November 25. There is no official word on when the company plans to push for a global roll out.
