Xiaomi has been rumored to be working on the Mi 5C, with multiple leaks regarding the device having surfaced on the internet. The device had earlier made an appearance on Geekbench, where it was spotted as the Xiaomi Meri a few months ago. Now, a Xiaomi Mi 5C Meri has been spotted at the GFXBench benchmark database, giving us solid evidence than the Mi 5C and the Xiaomi Meri are the same device.
The smartphone is spotted at GFXBench listing which likely confirms that the Xiaomi Mi 5C and the Xiaomi Meri is the same smartphone which will sport the in-house Pinecone SoC.
The Xiaomi Mi 5C, a.k.a Meri, will feature a 5.5-inch display that will have a 2.5D curved glass on top. Under the hood, the phone will run on an octa-core 1.4GHz Pinecone chipset, designed in-house by Xiaomi; the processor will be accompanied by the Mali T-860 GPU. It will pack 3GB of RAM with 64GB onboard storage as revealed by the GFXBench listing. The 5C will run on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box with MIUI 8 on top.
In the imaging department, the Xiaomi Mi 5C will have a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and an 8-megapixel camera up front. When it comes to connectivity, the phone is listed with Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth, and it is likely to feature 4G LTE with VoLTE support if it launches in India.
Xiaomi has scheduled an event on February 28, where it will unveil the Pinecone SoC. It remains to be seen if the Xiaomi Mi 5C will be revealed on the same day, or if the company will keep the phone’s announcement for another time.
