Sony to stop production and shipments of the PlayStation 3 in Japan soon

Sony may soon be ending the production of the PlayStation 3 in Japan. It has been a little over 10 years since Sony first launched the PlayStation 3. Japanese website Game’s talk recently discovered that the company may soon stop production of the PlayStation 3 in Japan after having noted that the 500GB black Sony PlayStation 3’s product page said that the PS3’s scheduled completion was coming soon. The 500GB black Sony PlayStation 3 is the only remaining model still in production in Japan.

Another report in Gematsu also confirmed the news. Although there hasn’t been a mention of specific dates, a game shop in Kurume, Fukuoka also recently tweeted that it received a notification that production was slated to end this month.

Launched way back in November 2006, Sony’s PlayStation 3 may well be at the end of its life cycle. Sony recently announced it was going to drop support for the PlayStation Now subscription service for everything but its flagship console, the PS4, and for Windows PC users. The company is likely to stop rolling out updates and support for PS 3 titles once production stops.
