Xiaomi is working on the second generation model of the Mi Max smartphone. Codenamed Oxygen, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will be almost like its predecessor. Following its recent appearance at the GFXBench, rumours continue to shroud around its specifications.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will have similar physical profile as that of the first Mi Max. The Mi Max 2 features a 6.44-inch display with 1080×1920 pixel resolution. Under the hood, the Mi Max 2 will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 chipset, not the Snapdragon 660 chipset as rumoured earlier.

The Snapdragon 626 chipset gives a ten percent performance bump over the Snapdragon 625 and capability to support the dual cameras. By default the Mi Max 2 will boot Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI on top of it.

At the rear will be a 12-megapixel camera integrating a Sony IMX378 image sensor. This camera will also offer phase detection auto focus and HDR mode. On the front will be a modest 5-megapixel camera.

So far, Xiaomi hasn’t put up any teasers or shared any formal launch date of the Mi Max 2. We can only expect it to arrive sometime in coming few months.
