Amazon may be launching its Fire TV streaming devices in India sometime later this month, according to a report by TechPP. The devices were initially expected to be launched along with Amazon Prime membership, first in July last year, and then again in December.
According to the report, the Amazon Fire TV Stick, available for $39.99 in the US, is expected to be priced at Rs.1999, but only for Amazon Prime subscribers. For non-Prime subscribers, the device is expected to be priced at Rs.3999. The report also says that in addition to Amazon.in, the Fire TV Stick will be sold via Croma and Reliance Digital stores in select Indian cities to begin with, and will be sold across other retail networks at a later date.
Amazon’s Fire TV Stick, a competitor to Google’s Chromecast, is powered by a quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. The device runs a customised version of Android with Amazon’s Fire TV UI skin on top. Its big highlight is undoubtedly the voice command feature backed by Alexa. The Fire TV Stick is bundled with a voice enabled remote for controlling various features of the stick. The device supports a range of streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and others. Customers of Amazon Prime get an unlimited access to shows and movies on the Amazon Prime Video app.
