Sharp Aquos R with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Android 7.1 Nougat goes official

Japanese smartphone maker Sharp has announced the new Aquos R smartphone with an HDR 10 compatible display. Not only that, Sharp has leapfrogged many phone manufacturers by housing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset inside the Sharp Aquos R. Currently listed for Japan region, the Aquos R packs several features.

The Sharp Aquos R comes with a 5.3-inch IGZO display with 2K pixel resolution. This display is HDR10 standard compatible and operators at 120Hz refresh rate, almost like a good television. In terms of design, the Aquos R has rounded corners and metal frame with glass panel at the rear.

The Sharp Aquos R is water and dust resistant thanks to its IPX8 certification. Under the hood, it houses the new 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset integrating the Adreno 540 GPU. This chipset is coupled with 4GB of RAM and offers 64GB internal UFS storage. The phone boots Android 7.1 Nougat.

Sharp has implemented its smart AI driving assitant called EMOP which activates when the user says – Hello Emop. At the rear is a 22.6 megapixel camera with f/1.9 aperture, high-speed autofocus, OIS, and LED flash. On the front is a 16.3-megapixel wide-angle camera to click selfies.

Sharp Aquos R

Sharp has packed 3,160 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support and also offering a charging dock called ROBOKOKU separately. This charging dock rotates automatically with the incoming call and looks for the phone owner’s face to answer the call.

While the company stays tight-lipped about the price, there’s no confirmation of this phone hitting other markets.
