Reports: Spotify to make its own hardware soon

Spotify is a company mostly known for its software-based streaming services. However, if we are to go by a recent job posting, first spotted by folks from over at Zatz Not Funny, Spotify seems very keen to get itself involved in the hardware business. While there is a cloud of mystery surrounding the actual nature of this mythical product, what we know is that this is aimed to be “a category-defining product” from them.

As for the job posting, the company is looking for a “Sr Project Manager – Hardware.” The description further states the “person will lead Spotify’s efforts to deliver hardware directly from Spotify to existing and new customers.”

The listing also clearly mentions that the person hired would be responsible for creating a product that the company wants to be “a category-defining product akin to Pebble Watch, Amazon Echo, and Snap Spectacles.”

As of now, experts believe this new product could be a new line-up of wearable products from them. It could be anything from a range of headphones capable of streaming music by its own — without having to connect to a smartphone or a smartwatch or a standalone streaming music player (which honestly, doesn’t really make much sense).

Let us hope Spotify does manage to come up with something really interesting by the end of this project.
