Google has released the new May Security patch for its Android devices – the Pixel and Nexus family. The updated factory images and the OTA files are now available for download. Do note that those files are for those who don’t wish to wait for the OTA update.

As per Google, the May security patch level dated May 5 is part of the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update for Pixel XL, Pixel, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, and Pixel C.

Meanwhile, the same May security patch is part of the Android 7.1.1 update for the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9.

If you own any of the devices mentioned above, you can download and flash the factory images or the OTA update. Otherwise, you can wait for the May 5, 2017, security patch to roll out via OTA.

The Android Security Bulletin for the month of May suggests that the May 5 security patch addresses critical vulnerabilities like the remote code execution initiated via a malicious email, website and MMS when processing media files.
