After rolling out UPI payment support in India, Uber has started to roll out two new features for riders in India: in-app chat and multi-destinations. So far, the only option you had to let your driver know your exact location was to make a phone call. With the new update, riders will be able to chat with drivers to help them find their exact location. The feature has already been launched in a number of markets globally earlier this month.
The new feature will not only be able to save time with the new in-app chat feature, it will also help riders keep their phone numbers private. For drivers, it will help reduce costs as well. Just like most modern messaging apps, riders, as well as drivers, can see if their sent chats have been delivered and read. Apart from English, multiple other languages are also supported. When booking a new ride, riders will see an option to “contact” the driver with a messaging icon displayed above it. Once you tap on it, you can begin chatting with the driver.
The multi-destination feature basically lets Uber riders enter multiple stops along their route. Once you add your destination in “Where To”, you can add additional destinations by tapping on the “+” option. However, do keep in mind that Uber advises each stop to be around 3 minutes or less. Needless to say, adding more destinations will obviously have an impact on your fare. Another thing that you should keep in mind is that additional destinations can be added as well as removed even while you are on a trip.
Uber is rolling out these new features in India in a phased manner, which basically means most of you will need to wait a few days to receive the new update.
