During its keynote event in Cupertino, Apple revealed that the iOS 11 update will be available for download for iPhone and iPad owners around the world starting September 19th. As confirmed by the company previously, only iPhone 5s and later iPhone models will be receiving the update. iPad models eligible for the iOS 11 update include all the latest iPad Air and Pro models, iPad 5th Gen, and the iPad mini 2 and later. The update can also be downloaded by iPad touch 6th Gen users. The newly announced iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus as well as the iPhone X will be shipping with iOS 11 out of the box.
Just like the previous major iOS updates, you will be able to install the iOS 11 update on your iPhone or iPad wirelessly by downloading the OTA update directly on the device. If you have access to a PC or Mac, you can also use iTunes to perform the update manually.
While the new AR features showcased by Apple during the keynote event are not likely to make their way to older iPhones, iOS 11 will still bring a number of exciting new features that should make your iOS experience better. Apple has made various improvements to Siri, making it smarter and more natural sounding than ever before. You can also look forward to the new Files app, customizable Control Center, Voice translation, new app switcher, improved Live Photos and Portrait Mode, and slight tweaks to the UI design. For iPads, the update will add greater integration of the Apple Pencil, Drag and Drop functionality, a dock at the bottom of the display that makes it easier to launch as well as switch between two or more apps, new keyboard features, and more. iOS 11 also adds the new HEIF and HEVC format support, which will allow photos and videos to be smaller in size than before.
