Today, Google has launched its newer-generation smartphone, the Pixel 2, which succeeds last year’s Google Pixel. The device now directly competes with the Apple iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy S8, and the Nokia 8. So let’s find out how they compete against each other in terms of their hardware and software specifications.
Display
The Pixel 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 come with an AMOLED display, while the Apple iPhone 8 and Nokia 8 pack an LCD display. The Samsung Galaxy S8 leads the display department with its HDR-capable Super AMOLED screen with QHD+ resolution. It is sad to see that neither the Google Pixel 2 nor the Apple iPhone 8 are equipped with an HDR display even though they are priced similarly to the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Camera
Coming to the imaging hardware, all the smartphones here are equipped with an OIS (optical image stabilisation), while the Nokia 8 is the only smartphone among the four to feature a dual-camera setup. In terms of video recording, the Apple iPhone 8 clearly wins with its 4K video recording at 60FPS. The Galaxy S8 and the Pixel 2 use Dual-Pixel phase detection autofocus, and the Pixel 2 one ups the Galaxy S8 with laser autofocus as well. Even the Nokia 8 has laser autofocus, but misses out on Dual-Pixel autofocus.
Processor
The Google Pixel 2 and the Nokia 8 are equipped Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the Apple iPhone 8 is powered by A11 Bionic chipset, while the Samsung Galaxy S8 is powered by Exynos 8895 chipset. The Nokia 8, Google Pixel 2, and the Galaxy S8 come with 4GB of RAM, whereas the Apple iPhone 8 is limited to only 2GB of RAM.
Battery
The Apple iPhone 8 has the lowest capacity battery of 1,821 mAh, among the four smartphones. The Google Pixel 2 has the second lowest battery capacity of 2,700 mAh, followed by the Samsung Galaxy S8’s 3,000 mAh battery and the Nokia 8’s 3,090 mAh battery. The Pixel 2 and the iPhone 8 are capable of rapid charging using USB-PD chargers. The Galaxy S8 is compatible with Adaptive Fast Charge and Quick Charge 2.0 technologies for fast charging. The Nokia 8 is compatible with Quick Charge 3.0.
