Xiaomi Redmi 5A vs Micromax Bharat 5 Specs comparison

It was just one day ago that Xiaomi announced the launch of its new Android handset the Xiaomi Redmi 5A in India. Dubbed as the successor to the highly popular Redmi 4A, the Redmi 5A packs in a lot of features and has an unbelievable price to boot. The Redmi 5A is likely to be lapped up by consumers in hordes once the phone goes on sale just a few days from now.

Another handset that was also highly anticipated and that was subsequently launched earlier today was the newest entry from Micromax to its popular “Bharat’ range of affordable handsets, the Micromax Bharat 5. In this article, let us take a look at the comparative spec sheets of both these handsets vying for your attention in case you are on the lookout for a phone under Rs.7,000. At the end of the article, I will also tell you which one is the better of the two.

Let’s begin, shall we? Before we start, here is a brief overview of both our contenders.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A

The key features on the Redmi 5A are the 5-inch HD, 720p display, the fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The handset also gets a higher priced version that gets 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM. The Redmi 5A gets a 13-megapixel camera at the rear and a 5-megapixel camera at the front for selfies. The handset also gets a dedicated microSD card slot for memory expansion so that the users will be able to use two SIM cards and the MicroSD card at the same time. The Redmi 5A also boasts of a 3,000 mAh battery that promises great battery life

The Micromax Bharat 5

The Micromax Bharat 5 boasts of a 5.2-inch 720p display and is powered by an unspecified quad core MediaTek processor that has been clocked at 1.3 GHz. The handset gets 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with the option to use microSD cards for additional memory expansion. The Micromax Bharat 5 gets a 5-megapixel camera both at the front and the rear. Both these camera units also get an LED flash for decent low light imaging. The Bharat 5 is also dual SIM ready and gets a huge 5,000 mAh battery.

Let us now compare the spec sheets of both these handsets using this chart below.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A vs Micromax Bharat 5: Who wins?

As evident from the table above, the Redmi 5A is the clear winner thanks to the much better hardware that the handset gets. Not only does the Redmi 5A get a newer, faster processor, the handset also gets double the amount of RAM the Micromax Bharat 5 comes with. With just 1GB of RAM, the Micromax will struggle with multitasking and day to day tasks. Both the handsets are equals when it comes to internal storage.

The Redmi 5A, however, does come in a better avatar that gets 32GB of storage while the Micromax does not have any such option. One area where the Micromax Bharat 5 clearly trounces the Redmi 5A is when it comes to battery capacity. The 5,000 mAh battery on the Micromax should on paper offer much better battery life than the Redmi 5A. We shall, however, reserve our judgment on actual real-world battery life only after we get both these handsets with us for a detailed review.

As for the pricing, Xiaomi has really nailed it this time. At just Rs.4,999, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A has the capability to make a lot of ‘affordable” handsets look overpriced.
