We have an unlikely combination of smartphone candidates, this time around. We are essentially comparing a nearly four-year old phone against a brand new 2017 contender from Xiaomi. But that’s largely because the Mi Mix 2 is priced quite close to both the iPhone 6s Plus and 6 Plus, so it’s an Apple loyalist considering the much older Apple phones over the brand new Xiaomi device is quite within the realms of possibility. So, just for that eventually, let’s find out which one of these is better than the other.
Apple iPhone 6s Plus vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Display
The battle of the displays is pretty straightforward if you consider the iPhone 6 Plus going against the iPhone 6s Plus. Both phones sport 5.5-inch IPS LCD screens sporting a resolution of 1080×1920 and pixel density of 401ppi. These phones might seem identical on paper, but the iPhone 6s Plus has a significantly better display. For starters, it has a decidedly better contrast ratio and superior sunlight legibility. The IPS LCD on the 6s Plus is quite colour accurate and more renders images and videos more precisely than its predecessor.
However, the presence of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 complicates things. It also houses an IPS LCD, but it’s much larger at 6-inches while being smaller than both iPhone 6s Plus and 6 Plus, thanks to a superior screen-to-body ratio in excess of 80 percent. The wider 18:9 aspect ratio also means the screen has a much higher resolution of 1080×1260, which in turn slightly increases the pixel density to 403ppi despite having a physically larger screen. It’s for this reason, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 wins this round, followed closely by the iPhone 6s Plus, with the iPhone 6 Plus coming in third.
Apple iPhone 6s Plus vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Camera
It’s a bit unfair to compare a newer 2017 smartphone with two and three year old models, but the iPhone 6s Plus has an excellent camera to begin with. Both Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and iPhone 6s Plus have identical specifications on paper, with 12-megapixel sensors, phase detection autofocus, OIS, and dual-LED dual-tone flash. The Mi Mix 2 has a slightly lager sensor and a wider aperture for better low-light photography.
The iPhone 6 Plus shows its age with an 8-megapixel sensor, though. It also fares the worst in the front camera department, with a measly 1.2-megapixel sensor compared to the other two, which sport 5-pixel sensors. In conclusion, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 edges out the iPhone 6s Plus, with the iPhone 6 Plus coming in last again.
Apple iPhone 6s Plus vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Performance
The performance comparison is the most straightforward here, simply because processing power always goes up with each passing year as fabrication processes shrink and silicon makers manage to cram in more transistors per square millimetre. Not surprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 wins this round with the vastly more powerful and feature rich Snapdragon 835 SoC, which has eight Kryo cores compared to the dual-core setup running at much slower clock speeds on the Apple A9.
The iPhone 6 Plus’ dual-core SoC is even slower and further marred by half the RAM at 1GB. It’s no contest here. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 wins this round, with the iPhone 6s Plus and 6 Plus coming in at second and third.
Apple iPhone 6s Plus vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Price in INdia
This is where things get a bit ridiculous. While it’s no secret that Apple phones command a premium, it still beggars belief that both the iPhone 6s Plus and 6 Plus are priced nearly identically at the ₹41,000 mark, with the 6s Plus being less than ₹1000 dearer than the 6 Plus. Let’s not forget that these phones are three and four year old, whereas the brand new Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 costs just ₹38500. It’s no contest here – the Mi Mix 2 wins by a country mile, with the 6s Plus coming in second, and the 6 Plus third.
Apple iPhone 6s Plus vs Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Verdict
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the final verdict also mimics the exact same order that we have seen in the past four categories. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is a newer, faster, better looking, and vastly superior phone in every respect. The fact that it costs less than its old competitors is an icing on the cake. The iPhone 6s Plus, as expected, fares better than the iPhone 6 Plus, since it’s newer. The only reason why would even consider any of these iPhones over the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is if you are loyal to the brand and want to flaunt the upmarket brand value and recognition of Apple.
