Continuing with our budget segment smartphone comparison series, in this one, we will compare three interesting handsets, all priced around the Rs.10,000 mark. The handsets that we would be looking at today include the Lenovo K8 Plus, the Honor 6X from Huawei and the ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie from, well, ASUS.
Åll the smartphones in today’s comparison are priced at Rs.9,999 making the comparison even more interesting. That said, more expensive versions of the Honor 6X and the Lenovo K8 Plus are also available for Rs.11,999 and Rs.10,999 respectively. Also, note that there are other versions of the Zenfone 4 Selfie available. In this one, however, we will talk about the Zenfone 4 Selfie with the model number ZB553KL because the Zenfone 4 Selfie Dual Camera version at Rs.14,999 is simply too expensive to be included in this comparison. Yes, I know this is pretty confusing.
We will first talk about the displays used on each of these phones before moving on to other facets.
Lenovo K8 Plus vs Honor 6X vs Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie: Display
The Lenovo K8 Plus has the smallest display among all the handsets in this comparison. The other two handsets, the Honor 6X and the ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie boast of 5.5 inch LCD displays. While the K8 Plus and the Honor 6X boast of full HD panels, the ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie only gets an HD (720p) display. Images and videos, therefore, will look much sharper on the Lenovo and the Honor 6X compared to the Zenfone. In our review, we found the Honor 6X display to be excellent with great viewing angles. We are, however, yet to review the Lenovo K8 Plus. It would, therefore, be up to you to choose the display that you like the best. Also, note that the K8 Plus is the smaller of the two. The Zenfone 4 Selfie with its lower resolution display clearly loses out in this race.
Lenovo K8 Plus vs Honor 6X vs Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie: Hardware, Software and Performance
All the three handsets in this comparison use different processors. While the Lenovo K8 Plus gets by with a Mediatek MT6757 Helio P25 chipset, the Honor 6X uses its in-house HiSilicon Kirin 655 chipset. The ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie gets the entry-level Snapdragon 430 chipset from Qualcomm.
While ASUS gets full marks for using the generally preferred Qualcomm chip, the important thing here is that the Snapdragon 430 is an entry-level chip usually found on handsets that retail for a lesser price. The Mediatek MT6757 Helio P25 and the Kirin 655 used by the Lenovo K8 Plus and the Honor 6X respectively are mid-range chipsets used on handsets that typically cost upwards of Rs.10,000.
Both the Lenovo K8 Plus and the Honor 6X come in two versions. While the Lenovo comes in a 3GB/32GB and a 4GB/32GB version, the Honor 6X comes in 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB versions. We would have loved if the 4G version of the Lenovo K8 also came with 64GB of memory. That, however, is not the case. The ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie is available in a single version that offers 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage.
Moving on to the battery, the K8 Plus with its 4,000 mAh battery has the highest battery capacity among the three. The Honor 6X is not far behind with its 3340 mAh battery. The Zenfone 4 Selfie gets by with a 3,000 mAh battery.
As for software, all three handsets here run Android 7.0 Nougat underneath their respective skins. While the Lenovo uses its own Vibe UI, the Honor 6X uses EMUI while the Zenfone 4 Selfie uses ASUS’ ZenUI. All three skins are excellent and have plenty of features over and above standard Android features. ASUS’ ZenUI is now much improved and is no longer filled with bloatware and unnecessary apps that used to clog ASUS handsets of the past. Honestly, it is down to personal preferences when it comes choosing the best UI among the three.
Lenovo K8 Plus vs Honor 6X vs Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie: Camera
Both the Lenovo K8 Plus and the Honor 6X use a dual camera setup for the primary camera at the rear. While the Lenovo K8 Plus uses a 13-megapixel plus a 5-megapixel combination, the Honor 6X gets a 12-megapixel plus 2-megapixel combination at the rear. The Zenfone 4 Selfie gets a single 13-megapixel camera at the rear. Both the Honor 6X and the Zenfone 4 Selfie support Phase Detection Auto Focus while the Lenovo K8 PLus does not.
As for the front camera, the Lenovo K8 Plus and the Honor 6X get an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies. As evident from its name, the ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie gets a much more capable 13-megapixel front facing camera with front LED flash for selfies. All the handsets support video recording in full HD resolution using the rear cameras. The Honor 6X, however, can also record full HD videos from its front camera.
Lenovo K8 Plus vs Honor 6X vs Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie: Price in India
Time for the most interesting part. The base versions of both the Lenovo K8 Plus and the Honor 6X retail for Rs.9,999 right now. The Zenfone 4 Selfie is also being sold for the same price. We do, however, feel that the Zenfone 4 Selfie is overpriced for the kind of hardware it sports. That leaves us with the K8 Plus and the Honor 6X.
There is no denying that it is a neck to neck race between the two. Both the phones get competent dual cameras and comparable hardware specs and we think it would eventually boil down to personal preferences if you are to choose between the two. For example, the Lenovo K8 Plus has a smaller display and overall smaller size which might be preferable for some users. The larger display on the Honor 6X could be preferred by another set of users. The pricing for the higher end variants for both the handsets are also interesting.
You can buy the top end version of the Lenovo K8 Plus for Rs.10,999 now while the top variant of the Honor 6X will set you back by Rs.11,999. However, do note that the top version of the Honor 6X also gives you more storage space – 64GB compared to just 32GB on the Lenovo K8 Plus. If I had the money, I will go for the 64GB version of the Honor 6X which I feel is a more value for money deal.
What would you choose?
