Redmi 4 vs Samsung Galaxy On5 vs Samsung Galaxy On7: Price in India, Specifications, and Features Compared

The budget segment is pretty crowded as it drives most of the volumes in the smartphone market. The entry of Chinese brands such as Xiaomi has proven to be quite disruptive, with the incumbent players such as Samsung being forced to rethink their pricing strategies and scramble desperately to push out phones that try to be competitive against their low priced, yet well specced Chinese counterparts. Let’s take a look at three such phones and figure out if Samsung has what it takes to take on Xiaomi in the budget game.

Redmi 4 vs Samsung Galaxy On5 vs Samsung Galaxy On7: Display

The Samsung Galaxy On5 and Xiaomi Redmi 4 have almost identical displays, which measure in at 5-inches and sport a resolution of 720×1280, thereby giving each phone a pixel density of approximately 290ppi. However, the Redmi 4 has a much better IPS LCD panel compared to the regular TFT one on the Samsung, with the Xiaomi unit being brighter, more vibrant, and blessed with better viewing angles to boot.

The Samsung Galaxy On7, however, has a larger screen at 5.5-inches, but it loses out on sharpness due to the similar 720p resolution bringing the pixel density down substantially. The Galaxy On7’s panel too is similar to the On5 and hence no match for the Redmi 4. The Redmi 4 easily comes out on top, with the On7 following in at second.

Redmi 4 vs Samsung Galaxy On5 vs Samsung Galaxy On7: Camera

Both the Redmi 4 and Galaxy On7 have similar camera specs with 13-megapixel sensors. The Redmi 4, however, has a wider aperture that helps with lowlight photography, which is further boosted by phase detection autofocus that helps with precise focusing and quicker image acquisition. The lack of HDR and panorama modes in the Galaxy On7 also puts it behind the Redmi 4. Having said that, the 8-megapixel snapper on the Galaxy On5 fares worse compared to its elder cousin, which leads to the Redmi 4 coming in first, followed by the Galaxy On7 and On5 in the second and third place, respectively.

Redmi 4 vs Samsung Galaxy On5 vs Samsung Galaxy On7: Performance

The Samsung Galaxy On5 is powered by the company’s own Exynos 3475 Quad SoC, whereas its elder sibling, the Galaxy On7, employs the Snapdragon 410 for the job. Even though the Exynos chipset is clocked a 100MHz higher than the Snapdragon equivalent, the latter is more advanced owning to 64-bit support and a much better GPU. The integrated LTE modem on the On7 is also a leg up for the phone. The Redmi 4, however, is in a whole new league with it’s much more powerful Snapdragon 435 SoC, which houses a much better GPU and is backed by a substantially greater amount of RAM and storage as well, even if you consider the lowest end variant.

Redmi 4 vs Samsung Galaxy On5 vs Samsung Galaxy On7: Price

The Galaxy On5 is priced at ₹6500, which is just ₹700 cheaper than the asking price of the relatively higher end Galaxy On7. With such a small difference, it all boils down to the screen size you prefer – 5.5-inch or the smaller 5-inch variety. Interestingly, the much superior Redmi 4 actually costs lower compared to the Galaxy On7, which is remarkable since the Xiaomi phone is superior to the more expensive Galaxy On7 in every single parameter. Needless to say, it would be a travesty to choose the On7 over the Redmi 4.

Redmi 4 vs Samsung Galaxy On5 vs Samsung Galaxy On7: Verdict

It’s hard to beat Xiaomi in the budget segment, and this is an object lesson to that effect. Despite Samsung’s valiant efforts to remain competitive in this segment with its aggressively priced Galaxy On series of phones, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 manages to do a much better job with superior specs while costing lower to boot. Between the On7 and On5, it really comes down to personal preference about phone size as there’s precious little differentiating these two phones.
