In today’s comparison article, let us take a look at three interesting handsets that have been in the news for quite some time now. One of the handsets in this article is yet to be officially launched by the company in India. The other two devices have been around for some time. Anyway, the three handsets that we are going to be comparing today are the Xiaomi Mi A1, The Xiaomi Redmi 5, and the Nokia 6. As usual, we will start off things by talking about the design and the displays of these three devices.
Mi A1 vs Redmi 5 vs Nokia 6: Display, Design
All three handsets in this article are budget to lower mid-range phones. However, all of them sport a metal build and feature at least an aluminium frame, if not a full body clad in aluminium. Moving on to display sizes, the newer Redmi 5 has the largest display of the lot, measuring 5.9 inches mainly due to its taller 18:9 aspect ratio. The resolution of this display is 1440 x 720 pixels. The Mi A1, on the other hand, features a 5.5 inch full HD display. The Nokia 6 too, sports a full HD panel. Both the Nokia 6 and the Mi A1 have much better PPI density compared to the Redmi 5. All the three handsets also boast of a Gorilla Glass coating for scratch resistance. While the Nokia 6 and the Mi A1 use Gorilla Glass 3, the version used by the Redmi 5 is yet to be made public by Xiaomi.
Mi A1 vs Redmi 5 vs Nokia 6: Hardware and Software
Let us now get to the most interesting part of this comparison, the hardware used on these three devices.
The Mi A1 is easily the most powerful of the three devices here thanks to its Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 processor. The phone gets 4GB of RAM and has 64GB of internal storage capacity with the option to expand it further using microSD cards. The phone uses the Adreno 506 GPU for graphics.
The Redmi 5 was announced along with its better spec’d sibling the Redmi 5 Plus. The handset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset and comes in two versions, a 2GB RAM + 16GB version and a 3GB RAM + 32GB version. The phone also gets the same Adreno 506 GPU for graphics.
Next up is the Nokia 6 which uses the Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 chipset for number crunching. The chip uses the Adreno 505 GPU for graphics. The phone comes in two versions a 3GB + 32GB version and a 4GB + 64GB version.
As for software, the Mi A1 and the Nokia 6 are somewhat similar in that they come with a near stock version of Android. The Mi A1 in fact is an Android One branded handset that will get priority Android updates for the foreseeable future. The Redmi 5, on the other hand, runs Xiaomi’s heavily customised MIUI atop and Android 7.1 core.
