Airtel, India’s largest telecom operator, today introduced a new prepaid plan to take on Reliance Jio’s Rs.98 plan. The new Rs.93 plan from Airtel offers 1GB of 3G/4G data along with unlimited local and STD voice calls as well as 100 free SMS per day. You will be able to enjoy the voice benefits even when roaming.

Reliance Jio’s Rs.98 plan offers customers 2.1GB of 4G data along with unlimited local and STD voice call benefits. While Airtel’s Rs.93 plan may be priced lower, it comes with a shorter validity period of 10 days. Jio’s Rs.98 plan, on the other hand, has a validity period of 14 days. However, Reliance Jio only gives you 140 free SMS for the entire 14-day validity period of the plan. Overall though, Jio’s plan is the definitely better value when compared to Airtel’s new Rs.93 plan, especially when you compare the data benefits. In fact, the Rs.52 plan from Jio, which has a validity of 7 days, offers 1.05GB of 4G data along with unlimited local and STD voice calls, and 70 SMS. Like all other Reliance Jio plans, the Rs.52 plan also gets you a free subscription to Jio apps such as Jio TV, Jio Cinema, and Jio Music. Airtel, on the other hand, offers access to Airtel TV and Wynk Music.

For those of you who are interested in prepaid plans with longer validity, Reliance Jio recently introduced two new plans with 28 days validity, priced at Rs.199 and Rs.299. While the Rs.199 plan gives you 1.2GB 4G data per day, the Rs.299 plan can get you 2GB of 4G data per day. In addition to the data benefits, both packs also offer unlimited voice calls as well as unlimited SMS. Airtel’s Rs.199 plan includes 1GB of 3G/4G data per day, 100 SMS per day, as well as unlimited local and STD calls. Similar to Jio’s plans, the Airtel Rs.199 plan has a validity of 28 days.
