The Redmi Y1 is among the newest phones from Xiaomi, having launched in November this year. It is currently priced at ?8,999. The Redmi Note 4 was the highest selling smartphone in India for 2017 – it was released in January and is currently priced at ?9,999 for its 32GB variant. The Zenfone Selfie 4 is priced at ?9,999 as well and was released four months ago.

All three phones have 5.5-inch IPS LCD displays. They all have the same aspect ratio and similar screen-to-body ratios as well. But the differences appear when you compare resolution and pixel density – the Y1 and Zenfone 4 Selfie offer 720 x 1280 whereas the Redmi Note 4’s display has a resolution of 1080 x 1920. In term of pixel density, the Y1 offers 236ppi whereas the Zenfone 4 Selfie has 267ppi. The Redmi Note 4 manages to surge ahead of the two by offering 401ppi.

All three phones come with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. The Redmi Y1 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core 1.4GHz processor, whereas the Redmi Note 4 comes with the amazing Snapdragon 625 octa-core 2.0 GHz chip. Comparatively, the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie comes with a Snapdragon 430 processor. While the Y1 and the Zenfone 4 Selfie have Adreno 505 GPUs, the Redmi Note 4 has an Adreno 506 graphics processing unit.
All three phones currently run on proprietary forks of Android, equivalent to version 7.0 – Android Nougat. While the Xiaomi phones run on MIUI 9.0, the Asus phone runs on ZenUI 4.0. All three phones offer 3GB RAM paired with 32GB onboard storage and all three offer support for expandable memory and dual SIM cards.
Battery life on the Redmi Note 4 is superior to both the Y1 and the Zenfone 4 Selfie.

The Redmi Y1, the Redmi Note 4 and the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie all sport similar 13MP cameras on the rear. All three support phase detection autofocus and can record 1080p video at 30 frames per second.
On the front, the Redmi Y1 sports a 16MP selfie snapper whereas the Redmi Note 4 comes with a tamer 5MP camera. The Zenfone 4 Selfie doesn’t quite live up to its name in this comparison review – it has a 13MP camera for taking selfies. It does have an LED flash on the front, though so your pictures are well-lit.

The Redmi Note 4 wins this comparison quite comfortably – it has superior battery life, a better processor, great build quality and an impressive display. The Y1 did put up quite a fight though and makes sense if taking a lot of selfies is a priority for you. But if you ever have to choose between these three phones, we highly recommend you go for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.
