Over the course of the past few weeks, we at Gear By MySmartPrice have been comparing a bunch of handsets that fall in a similar price bracket. Today’s comparison is a rather odd when where we compare a nearly five-year-old handset with two handsets that were launched earlier this year. The handsets in question include the Nokia 7, the Vivo V7 (which incidentally received a price cut recently), and the iPhone 5S that was released back in 2013. Now, the only reason we have the iPhone 5S in this list is that it is still sold in India for anywhere between Rs.17,000 and Rs.25,000 depending on the version you try to buy. Also, note that the second handset in this comparison – the Nokia 7 – is yet to be officially launched by Nokia in India. That, however, is no reason to not compare these three devices.
Nokia 7 vs Vivo V7 vs iPhone 5S: Design, Display
Even though the iPhone 5S is the oldest handset in this list, it still features a relatively modern design. All the handsets in this list feature an aluminium frame/body and look quite premium. As for the displays, the iPhone 5S has the smallest display of the lot and comes with a 4-inch display with a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels. The Vivo V7 has the largest display among these phones and gets a 5.7-inch 720p panel. The Nokia 7, on the other hand, uses a 5.2-inch full HD panel. It is an easy win for the Nokia in his round thanks to its more modern and higher resolution display. The iPhone and the Nokia 7 both get some form of display scratch protection thanks to the use of Gorilla Glass.
Nokia 7 vs Vivo V7 vs iPhone 5S: Software and Hardware
Moving on to the hardware spec-sheet, we see that the Nokia 7 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor that bundles an Adreno 508 GPU for graphics. The phone comes in two versions a 64GB storage and 4GB RAM variant and a 64GB 6GB RAM version. The Vivo V7, on the other hand, gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chip that is officially positioned a notch below the Snapdragon 6XX series. This chip bundles an Adreno 506 GPU to take care of the graphics. As for the iPhone, the nearly 5-year-old model uses the Apple A7 chip and bundles the PowerVR G6430 chip for graphics. Movin on to the battery, the iPhone 5S has the lowest battery capacity among the three thanks to its 1560 mAh battery. The other two phones get a 3,000 mAh battery.
Nokia 7 vs Vivo V7 vs iPhone 5S: Camera
Moving on to the camera, we have the iPhone 5S getting an 8-megapixel camera at the rear with dual LED, dual-tone flash. The phone also supports full HD video recording at 30fps and slow-motion videos at 120 fps. The front camera can capture 1.2-megapixel shots and also supports 720p video recording at 30 fps.
The Nokia 7 gets a 16-megapixel primary camera at the rear. This camera supports phase detection autofocus, has Carl Zeiss optics and gets dual LED dual tone flash for low light imaging. At the front, the handset gets a 5-megapixel shooter for selfies. The handset is also capable of capturing 4k videos at 30 fps.
The Vivo V7 also gets a 16-megapixel camera at the rear with support for phase detection autofocus. The handset also gets an LED flash for low light imaging. The Vivo V7 after its recent price cut is now available for Rs. 16,990 as opposed to its launch price of Rs.18,990. The iPhone 5S, on the other hand, is available for as low as Rs. 17,999 and can go up to Rs. 25,000 depending on the version and the colour you choose.
