The Wi-Fi 802.11ax is the next big thing in the world of internet. The Wi-Fi ax apart from increased speed focuses on improving the handling of a large number of devices. D-Link is the latest company to announce products based on Wi-Fi ax, after Intel. D-Link at the CES 2018 event has announced two routers based on Wi-Fi ax, and three routers based on Wi-Fi ac.
The first and the fastest router from the company is the AX11000 Ultra. It has a jaw-dropping speed of 11,000 Mbps. The D-Link AX11000 Ultra is a tri-band router. Speaking of wired connectivity, the router provides one 2.5 Gbps WAN port, four Gigabit LAN ports, and a USB 3.0 port. The AX11000 Ultra also has a 4×4 MU-MIMO for better handling of a large number of wireless devices. From the images provided by D-Link, the AX11000 has eight antennas, and the router resembles the design of a spaceship. However, D-Link has not provided a detailed spec sheet for this router yet.
The second and slightly downgraded router is the D-Link AX6000. The router boasts a speed of 6,000 Mbps. Unlike the AX11000 Ultra, the AX6000 has only two bands. However, similar to the AX11000 Ultra, the AX6000 also comes equipped with one 2.5 Gbps WAN port, four Gigabit LAN ports, and a USB 3.0 port. The D-Link AX6000 has a similar design to that of the AX11000 Ultra.
Both the routers can be set up and managed from D-Link Wi-Fi app. Hence, there is no need for a wired connectivity device to manage these routers. According to D-Link, the AX6000, as well as the AX11000, will go on sale in the second half of 2018. There is still no info on the pricing of these two routers. However, we expect these routers to be priced heavily.
Apart from the Wi-Fi ax routers, D-Link has also announced two new mesh routers. The Covr series of mesh routers from D-Link is available in two variants. The first is a dual-band three component mesh router and the second is a tri-band two component mesh router. The dual-band three-piece mesh router is priced at $249 and will ship in Q1 2018, whereas, the tri-band two piece mesh router is priced at $319 and will be available from Q2 2018. In case you aren’t aware, mesh routers are multiple piece routers, where you can place each router in a different area of your home/office to avoid dead spots and increase the Wi-Fi coverage.
Lastly, the company has announced the AC2600 router powered by McAfee. The USP of the AC2600 is its McAfee Secure Home Platform, where the device promises to protect against security threats using cloud-based machine learning. According to D-Link, the AC2600 “protects all connected devices, including IoT devices”. The AC2600 uses Intel GRX350 processor. The router features MU-MIMO technology, one gigabit WAN port, and four gigabit LAN ports. The availability and pricing of the AC2600 haven’t been revealed yet.
