According to the US network carrier T-Mobile, it has been revealed that the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and the Galaxy Tab E 8.0 may soon get the Android 8.0 Oreo update. The product listings of the Galaxy J7 Prime and the Galaxy Tab E 8.0 on the T-Mobile’s website says “Phase: Manufacturer Development: Version 8.0 Oreo”, which means that the software is under development by the manufacturer.
According to us, the Android 8.0 Oreo update for both the devices will feature Samsung’s new Experience UI, which is currently seen in the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+. The new Experience UI from Samsung brings with it a set of new application icons, redesigned system theme, and plenty of additional features. Samsung’s Experience UI is currently regarded as the most modern looking UI in comparison to the custom-themed Android OS from other smartphone manufacturers.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and the Galaxy Tab E 8.0 were launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. Both the devices were updated to the Android 7.0 Nougat OS after a few months of their launch. It is quite strange to see that Samsung is planning on upgrading these devices to Android 8.0 Oreo, as Samsung usually doesn’t provide more than one OS update to its entry-level and mid-range smartphones.
Although the T-Mobile’s website indicates towards the update, nothing can be said for sure until an official announcement is made. It is also possible that the update is limited to the T-Mobile’s devices and the devices sold in the US. Among the two devices, only the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is on sale in India. The Galaxy J7 Prime became an instant hit upon its launch in India. However, with the launch of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, and the Xiaomi Mi A1, the sales of the Galaxy J7 Prime have taken a hit. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is currently retailing for Rs. 13,900 in India.
