Android 8.0 Oreo Update Starts Rolling Out To Nokia 6

It’s been raining updates for the Nokia smartphones, HMD Global who holds the right to sell Nokia-branded devices worldwide, has now started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for the original Nokia 6 smartphone. After a wait of six months since Google launched the Oreo version for Android, the Nokia 6 is finally getting the taste of Oreo.

Android 8.0 Oreo for Nokia 6: Features and update details

Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Nokia 6 weighs 1,659MB in size and is already rolling out for the device globally. The update brings a slew of new features aboard for the Nokia 6, which includes refreshed settings UI, improved power saving and activity manager, enhanced camera performance in low-light, and more.

Alongside, the update also brings several popular Oreo features such as Picture-in-Picture (PiP), notification dots, Autofill, and more. HMD Global has released the update for the global variant carrying the model number TA-1003 and the Chinese variant with the model number TA-1003.

Android 8.0 Oreo for Nokia 6: How to check for update manually

For the Nokia 6 owners who haven’t received the update notification yet, you can also check for it manually by opening Settings > System > Check for Update. If you don’t find the update, then wait for a day or two for receiving it OTA on your phone. It’s worth noting that HMD Global has made the ROM files public yet, so for those who are planning to flash the device, have to wait.

The Nokia 6 was among the first Nokia devices to be included in Nokia Beta Labs program for beta testing the Oreo update. At that time, HMD Global also confirmed that all of its smartphones will be receiving Oreo update soon. Nokia 8 was the first smartphone to get stable Oreo update. Low budget Nokia 2 will also be receiving the Oreo update soon while the company has already seeded the update for its mid-ranger Nokia 5.

When compared to other OEMs, Nokia has been faring pretty well when it comes to roll out updates on time. Right from monthly security updates to major software upgrades, HMD Global has been keeping up with its promises.

Nokia 6: Specifications and features

The Nokia 6 debuted in India, last year, priced at Rs 14,999. The phone features a 5.5-inch FullHD LCD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 435 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that is further expandable via microSD card. The phone boasts a 16MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP selfie shooter. For connectivity, it supports 4G, VoLTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The Nokia 6 runs on near stock Android, free from any bloatware or custom UI.
