The budget smartphone market is always welcoming new entries thanks to manufacturers such as Lenovo, Xiaomi, Asus, Oppo and many others. The Motorola Moto E4 Plus and the Lenovo K8 Plus have been quite successful since they came out last year. The Oppo A71 was also launched around the same time as the Lenovo K8 Plus. However, we now have a slightly upgraded variant of the phone coming out this year, and it is around the same price point as the last time. Let us find out if the new upgrades of the Oppo A71 (2018) are enough to beat the competition.
Moto E4 Plus vs Lenovo K8 Plus vs Oppo A71 2018: Price in India
The Moto E4 Plus is the oldest phone in this list and was launched back in June of 2017. The phone costs around Rs. 9,999 right now. The Lenovo K8 Plus can be picked up for the same price of RS. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM model, while the 4GB variant will cost Rs. 10,999. The Oppo A71 2018 version is expected to launch sometime this month and will be priced somewhere around Rs. 10,999.
Moto E4 Plus vs Lenovo K8 Plus vs Oppo A71 2018: Display
Both the Lenovo K8 Plus and the Oppo A71 (2018) have a 5.2-inch screen as compared to the Motorola Moto E4 Plus which has a 5.5-inch screen. All three have IPS LCDs with an aspect ratio of 16:9, however, the Moto E4 Plus and the Oppo A71 (2018) offer screen resolutions of just 720 x 1280 pixels when compared to the 1080 x 1920 display that the Lenovo K8 Plus has. The higher resolution display of the Lenovo K8 Plus simply offers a better visual experience when compared to the other two smartphones on this list.
Moto E4 Plus vs Lenovo K8 Plus vs Oppo A71 2018: Camera
The Motorola Moto E4 plus and the Oppo A71 2018 come with a similar camera setup of a 13-megapixel primary shooter and a 5-megapixel front camera. However, the former can only record videos at 720p at 30fps while the later can record 1080p videos at 30fps. On the other hand, the Lenovo K8 Plus offers a dual camera setup (13MP + 5MP) at the rear with an 8-megapixel camera for selfies. The primary camera on this phone offers phase detection autofocus, a dual-tone LED flash, face detection and can record videos at 1080p at 30fps.
The better camera resolution helps the Lenovo K8 Plus take the lead again as it offers better clarity in images. The Oppo A71 2018 is also a great contender as it features the “AI Beauty Recognition Technology” which helps users in capturing good-looking selfies. Unfortunately, the Moto E4 Plus falls behind as its camera just lacks in all departments compared to the other two smartphones on this list.
Moto E4 Plus vs Lenovo K8 Plus vs Oppo A71 2018: Battery and Performance
The Oppo A71 2018 has an upgraded processor at its heart when compared to its last year’s model. This time it is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor as opposed to 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek chipset it had the previous time. The Motorola Moto E4 Plus offers a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek chipset, while the Lenovo K8 Plus has the greater 2.5GHz octa-core MediaTek chipset. Coming to memory, the Oppo decided to reduce the RAM on its phone to 2GB from the 3GB it had earlier. The Motorola E4 Plus has 3GB of RAM while Lenovo offers a 3GB and a 4GB variant of the same phone. This Ensures that the Lenovo K8 Plus has the best power compared to the rest.
The Moto E4 Plus has a 5,000mAh battery, which is the highest compared to the other two phones. Because of the lowest performance and larger battery, this phone will offer the longest battery life. On the other hand, the Oppo A71 2018 has the worst battery life with just a 3,000mAh battery inside. The Lenovo K8 Plus comes equipped with a 4,000mAh battery, placing it in the middle of the other two in this regard.
All phones come with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. However, it is uncertain whether the Motorola Moto E4 will receive any updates to Android 8.0 Oreo. Meanwhile, the Lenovo K8 Plus is on track to receive this update soon, and since the Oppo A71 is launching this year, it should also be getting the update eventually.
Moto E4 Plus vs Lenovo K8 Plus vs Oppo A71 2018: Verdict
The Motorola E4 Plus is the oldest out of the three. It might have the longest battery life, but in any other department, it just does not live up to the mark. On the other hand, the “AI Beauty Recognition Technology” might appeal to some, but it is not enough to save the Oppo A71 (2018) from having the least battery life at a higher price point than the other two devices. Also, this phone does not have a fingerprint scanner, which is considered a basic feature of any modern smartphone. Even though it might have slightly lower battery life than the Moto E4 Plus, we would have to declare the Lenovo K8 Plus to be the winner in this match with its greater performance and better camera. This phone offers the best all rounded features for its price.
