Ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2018 later this month, HMD Global has trademarked an upcoming smartphone with the model number TA-1005 as Nokia 8 Sirocco. The TA-1005 model number was previously believed to be a variant of the Nokia 9. If you are a Nokia fan, you may perhaps remember the Nokia 8800 Sirocco that was launched in 2006 as the company’s most expensive phone. Since the Nokia 8800 Sirocco came with quite a few upgrades over the regular Nokia 8800, there is a good chance that the Nokia 8 Sirocco will be a more premium device than the current Nokia 8.
Nokia 8 Sirocco: Rumored Features and Specifications
According to the latest rumors, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is going to be HMD Global’s first 2018 flagship smartphone to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Previous rumors had suggested the Nokia 8 (2018) would be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset will be paired with 6GB of RAM, which should ensure great system performance and flawless multitasking. In the camera department, HMD’s next flagship is rumored to feature a dual-camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 13-megapixel secondary sensor, both paired with Carl Zeiss optics. On the front will be a 5-megapixel selfie snapper with Zeiss lens. Keeping the lights on could be a 3250mAh battery, a slight upgrade over the 3090mAh unit found on the Nokia 8. The Nokia 8 Sirocco will also come with an IP67 certification for dust and water resistance. In terms of design, it is likely that the Nokia 8 Sirocco will not be very different from the Nokia 8. However, we do hope that isn’t actually going to be the case, as consumers may not be very impressed with relatively large bezels on a 2018 flagship smartphone.
Nokia 8 Sirocco: Rumored Price, Availability
According to the latest rumors, Nokia 8 Sirocco will be priced somewhere around the $800 mark at launch, which converts to roughly Rs.51,400 based on the current exchange rate. If the rumored pricing is indeed accurate, the Nokia 8 Sirocco will be slightly more affordable than most new flagship smartphones. This isn’t surprising, given how the Nokia 8 was launched at a lower price point than most other Android flagship smartphones last year.
While HMD Global hasn’t confirmed anything officially just yet, it is being speculated that the Nokia 8 Sirocco could be officially unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona later this month. HMD Global is holding a press conference in Barcelona on the 25th of this month at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. Along with the Nokia 8 Sirocco, HMD Global is also expected to unveil the Nokia 9, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 1 smartphones at the event. Since HMD Global usually releases its devices several weeks after their official announcement, we don’t expect the Nokia 8 Sirocco to go on sale before April. India being one of the most important markets for HMD Global, there is a good chance that the Nokia 8 Sirocco will be launched in India. However, if the Nokia 9 and Nokia 10 smartphones do exist, there is a small chance that all three smartphones may not make their way to the Indian market.
