Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3S, Mi 4, Mi 3 to get Split Screen feature

Google debuted the Split Screen feature with Android 7.0 Nougat way back in 2016. Many OEMs brought this genuinely useful feature to their smartphones a few months ago. Xiaomi also introduced the Split Screen mode in some of its handsets, including the Mi 5, Mi Max, Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4 after the announcement of its Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 9 operating system. However, it did not bring the Split Screen feature to the phones running on Android 6.0. However, we now have some interesting news for such devices, including the Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3/3s Prime, Mi 4 and the Mi 3.

According to a report from FoneArena, the Split Screen feature has already been rolled out to MIUI China Alpha ROM users and it might soon come out through MIUI China Beta ROM. As per the publication’s report, supported devices include the popular Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3S/Prime/Plus, Mi 4, and the Mi 3. Despite being using capable hardware, these handsets were missing out with this useful feature. It now appears as if the developers have started working to bring the Split Screen feature for Xiaomi smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Here’s a post from MIUI China Forum where the administrator is implying the adoption of the Split Screen mode on Android 6.0 Marshmallow smartphones:

“Split screen team engineers are currently actively adapted based on Android 6.x models, is expected to go online in early January to 6.x trial version of the model to be tested until the test is completed, it will go online to the development version And follow-up stable version”.

You should note that this announcement has been made in regards to the Redmi 4 Prime which is running the MIUI China ROM. The phone, however, was made official running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow back in November 2016. It is powered by the Snapdragon 625 chipset and is exclusive to the Chinese market. The Alpha ROM testing for the device is said have started in January 2018, which means that we can expect the Split Screen feature soon in the next few days.

Notably, there’s no news regarding this feature coming to the “Global Stable ROM” for the Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3/3S Prime, Mi 4 and the Mi 3. Apart from that, these handsets still run Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system despite the rollout of MIUI 9.
