Bharti Airtel has announced a strategic partnership with Hotstar to bring the latter’s content on its platform. Airtel TV subscribers will be able to enjoy all of Hotstar’s offerings on the latest version of the Airtel TV app. This access is granted to all Airtel prepaid and postpaid users but is only available for a limited amount of time. With this offer, Airtel users will have access to over 1,00,000 hours of content from Hotstar’s library. This content includes a vast collection of live sports, movies and tv shows that are available in 9 different languages. There is even the access to 22 channels and over 3,000 hit movies and shows from Star India’s network for free.
Airtel has partnered up with many other leading broadcasters and production houses in an attempt to bring a compelling experience to its customers under its platform. This new collaboration with Hotstar will make Airtel TV’s portfolio come up to 350 live TV channels and around 10,000 popular, local and international movies and tv shows. This offer is only available until June of 2018, after which customers will probably need to subscribe to enjoy the additional content. The pricing details for the new channels has not yet been disclosed.
Commenting on the partnership, Sameer Batra, CEO of Wynk, an Airtel subsidiary, said, “We are delighted to have Hotstar onboard as a long-term partner in our endeavour to build a world-class digital content ecosystem. Their rich content library will add immense value to our content play and add to the user experience. Airtel TV’s new version has received an extremely positive response from users, and we will continue to bring exciting content and in-app innovations to delight them.”
CEO of Hotstar Ajit Mohan added, “Airtel has among the widest consumer footprints in India and with our expansive content library, comprising rich programming that can cater across age groups, geographies and interests, there are natural synergies, and we are very excited about this partnership.”
Just last month Airtel had announced a partnership with Amazon that offers a free one-year Amazon Prime membership to all Airtel customers who have subscribed to its Rs.499 Infinity plan or higher. On the other hand, Hotstar last year signed a similar deal with Jio TV that provided the latter’s customers access to Hotstar’s content. This partnership gave Jio TV users access to content from 432 live channels in 15 languages.
