Redmi Note 5 vs Oppo A71 (2018) vs Honor 9 Lite vs Redmi Note 4: Performance and Battery Life
The Redmi Note 5 has to be a step up from the Redmi Note 4, which is why rumours are doing the rounds that the phone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core 1.8GHz processor. The Honor 9 Lite comes equipped with a Kirin 659 octa-core (4 x 2.36GHz + 4 x 1.7GHz) SoC whereas the Oppo A71 is said to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core 1.8GHz under the hood. The Redmi Note 4 comes with the efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core 2.0GHz chip, which is efficient at both processing and saving power.
The Redmi Note 5 will offer 3GB RAM paired with 32GB ROM, just like the Honor 9 Lite. The Oppo A71 (2018) however will offer 2GB RAM paired with 16GB of internal storage. The Redmi Note 4 offers the same configuration as the Redmi Note 5 and the Honor 9 Lite — 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage.
While the Honor 9 Lite offers users Android 8.0 via its EMUI fork, the Redmi Note 5 will most likely come with MIUI 9.0, which is equivalent to Android 7.1.2 (Nougat). The Oppo A71 (2018) too comes with Android Nougat (ColorOS 3.2) whereas the Redmi Note 4 already offers MIUI 9.0.

Redmi Note 5 vs Oppo A71 (2018) vs Honor 9 Lite vs Redmi Note 4: Camera
It seems dual cameras are here to stay. It’s great to see budget segment cameras offer dual camera arrays — whereas the Redmi Note 5 offers a 12MP + 5MP combo on the rear, the Honor 9 Lite comes with identical dual lenses (13MP + 2MP) on both front and back. The Oppo A71 (2018), in comparison, has a 13MP f/2.2 shooter whereas the Redmi Note 4 has a 13MP f/2.0 rear camera.
On the front, the Redmi Note 5 offers an 8MP snapper. The Honor 9 Lite, as mentioned earlier, offers the 13MP+2MP combo whereas the Oppo A71 (2018) sports a 5MP f/2.4 selfie camera. Comparatively, the Redmi Note 4 offers a 5MP f/2.0 camera on the front.

Of these four, it’s a close call between the Redmi Note 5 and the Honor 9 Lite. The parameters working in favour of the Redmi Note 5 are the processor specs, software experience and battery life. But the Honor 9 Lite is an excellent phone, and we’d recommend waiting for the launch of the new Xiaomi phone in two days before you decide what you want to buy.
