One of the most anticipated phones in recent times, the Redmi Note 5 will have a lot of eyes on it as smartphone buyers are curious how the phone will follow up to the incredible Redmi Note 4. We decided to make it simpler for you. We picked a nice mix of phones to compare the Redmi Note 5 against: the Redmi Y1, the Honor 9 Lite, and the Oppo A71 (2018), which was launched a couple of days ago. The Redmi Note 5 was launched today, 14th Feb, aka Valentine’s Day 2018, and the phone will be priced at ?9,999 (with the 4GB 64GB variant priced at ?11,999). Comparatively, the Redmi Y1 was launched in November 2017 and is currently priced at ?10,999 for the 64GB version. The Honor 9 Lite was announced earlier last month and costs ?10,999 as well. And lastly, we have the Oppo A71 (2018) which was released two days ago and is priced at ?9,990.

The Redmi Note display specs are quite close to what we already knew before the official launch. It sports a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display that offers a resolution of 1080x2160p and a density of 403 pixels per inch. Comparatively, the Redmi Y1 offers a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display that has a resolution of 720×1280 and a pixel density of 267ppi. The Honor 9 Lite features a 5.65-inch IPS LCD display which has a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels. It has a density of 428 pixels per inch. And next up, we have the new Oppo A71 (2018) which offers a resolution of 720×1280 on its 5.2-inch IPS LCD display, with a pixel density of 282ppi. The Xiaomi phones offer Gorilla Glass protection on their displays.

The Redmi Note 5 comes equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core 2.0GHz processor, which is way more powerful than anything else in this comparison. The Redmi Y1 is powered by a Snapdragon 435 octa-core 1.4GHz chip, whereas the Honor 9 Lite has an in-house chip under the hood, the HiSilicon Kirin 659, which is an octa-core (4 x 2.36GHz + 4 x 1.7GHz) SoC. The new Oppo A71 (2018) offers a Qualcomm SDM450 Snapdragon 450 octa-core 1.8GHz processor, in comparison.

The Redmi Note 5 offers 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage but is available in a 4GB 64GB configuration as well. The Y1 offers 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, whereas the Honor 9 Lite comes as a 3GB 32GB model, whereas the Oppo A71 (2018) offers 3GB RAM paired with 16GB ROM. All the phones support expandable memory via microSD card.

The Redmi Note 5 comes with MIUI 9.0, which is the Android Nougat version. The Redmi Y1 current offers Android 7.1, whereas the Honor 9 Lite, in comparison, comes with EMUI 8.0 out of the box, which is an Android Oreo fork. The Oppo A71 (2018) comes with Android 7.1.2 in a custom avatar, thanks to ColorOS.

The Redmi Note 5 features a 12MP f/2.2 camera on the rear whereas the Redmi Y1 features a 13MP f/2.2 shooter on the back. The Honor 9 Lite features a dual camera setup on the rear, with a 13MP and 2MP lens combo letting you take pictures with excellent depth of field. The Oppo A71 (2018) shares camera specs with the Redmi Y1, offering a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera as well. All four phones can manage 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second.

The Redmi Note 5 has a 5MP front camera, whereas the Y1 offers a much better 16MP selfie shooter on the front. But the Honor 9 Lite steals the limelight here by offering a dual camera setup on the front as well — a 13MP+2MP array lets you shoot some really impressive selfies. Comparatively, the Oppo A71 (2018) offers a 5MP selfie snapper.
