This week marked the entry of two new Xiaomi smartphones in India, the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Following its streak, Xiaomi has put competitive price tags on both the phones. With the addition of two new smartphones, Xiaomi’s lineup has become even more confusing for the interested, calling for a comparison between the best ones launched recently. So, today, we have decided to do a face-off between four Xiaomi phones – the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi Mi A1, and the Redmi Note 4. Let’s begin the comparison without further ado.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro has been launched in two variants – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version and a 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version, priced at Rs.13,999 and Rs.16,999 respectively. While the Redmi Note 5 is priced at Rs. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version and Rs. 11,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. The Xiaomi Mi A1 retails at Rs.13,999 bearing 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Lastly, the Xiaomi’s best selling Redmi Note 4 is currently retailing at Rs. 8,999 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant and Rs. 11,999 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant.
Going by the pricing of all the phones, it is tough to decide the best one as there is no significant price gap. However, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro come with the latest technology, which makes them a better choice among the rest. For the ones who do not MIUI much, they can go for the MI A1 as it comes with stock Android.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with 5.99-inch IPS LCD panel bearing a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels with 18:9 aspect ratio. While the Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch full-HD display with 1080×2160 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi A1 has 5.5-inch LTPS IPS LCD screen with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Finally, the Redmi Note 4 also possesses a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes powered by Snapdragon 636 SoC that is one of the latest chipsets from Qualcomm. It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9 out-of-the-box. There are two RAM and storage versions of the device – 4GB RAM +64GB storage version and the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 5 comes in 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version and 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version. It also runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9 out-of-the-box and is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 is powered by Snapdragon 625 MSM8953 chipset and has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The device runs Android 7.1 Nougat without MIUI layer on top. While the Redmi Note 4 comes powered by a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC. It comes in three variants featuring 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage. It was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8 but has recently started receiving MIUI 9 update that is based on Nougat.
Redmi Note 5 Pro vs. Redmi Note 5 vs. Redmi Note 4 vs. Mi A1: Camera
On the imaging front, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with 12MP+5MP dual rear camera setup. The 12MP lens uses the Sony IMX 486 sensor while the second 5MP lens is used as a depth sensor. On the front, it features 20MP selfie snapper with large f 2.2 aperture and Sony IMX 376 sensor. The front camera also has LED selfie light while the rear camera can record full HD 1080p videos. Whereas, the Redmi Note 5 boasts a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, EIS, and an LED flash. There is a 5MP selfie snapper with Beautify 3.0 and LED selfie-light.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 features 12MP+12MP dual rear camera setup. The first lens has an aperture of f/2.2 while the secondary lens has an aperture of f/2.6. The rear camera is also geared with additional features like phase detection autofocus (PDAF), 2x optical zoom, and get dual-tone LED flash for low light photography. On the front, it bears 5MP selfie snapper, both the rear and front camera can record 1080p full HD videos at 30fps.
The Redmi Note 4 comes with a 13MP rear camera bearing dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, and PDAF. There is a 5MP selfie camera with 85-degree wide-angle view and f/2.0 aperture. However, it lacks LED flash.
Redmi Note 5 Pro vs. Redmi Note 5 vs. Redmi Note 4 vs. Mi A1: Verdict
After comparing all the major features, we think that both the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro make up for a better buy as they are the latest ones. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is also a good buy as it not as old as the Redmi Note 4 and offer pure Android software without MIUI interference.
