More than 3 lakh units of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro sold out in 3 minutes during first sale


The Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi had launched its new affordable smartphones, the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro, in India last week. The phones went on sale on Flipkart and yesterday at 12 PM and they were also made available at Mi Home stores on the same day. The company’s India head and Global VP Manu Kumar Jain has claimed that Xiaomi has sold over more than 3 lakh units of the smartphones under 3 minutes, which means that almost 1 lakh units were sold per minute.

Interestingly, apart from online flash sales, there were queues of people seen at the several Mi Home stores in India for buying these phones. Apart from that, over 20 lakh people had shown interest (by clicking the Notify Me button on the e-commerce store) to buy these smartphones during yesterday’s sale. Redmi Note 5, Note 5 Pro: Features, Specifications

The Redmi Note 5 is the successor to 2017’s most popular smartphone in India, the Redmi Note 4 which had debuted in the country last year. It was originally announced in China as the Redmi 5 Plus a few months ago. The phone features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio and reduced bezels around the screen. It is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB storage, and runs MIUI 9 which is based on Android 7.1 Nougat. In terms of imaging, the Note 5 sports a single 12MP camera with phase-detection autofocus, LED flash, and 4K video recording. There is a 5MP selfie shooter at the front which offers Full HD video recording as well.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro features the same display as that of the Redmi Note 5. However, there’s a difference in the processor and RAM. The phone uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, and it is the first phone to use the newly announced Snapdragon chipset. The Redmi Note 5 Pro has 4GB/6GB RAM capabilities paired with 64GB of internal storage. In terms of imaging, the Redmi Note 5 Pro offers something extra compared to the Redmi Note 5. There’s a dual-camera setup (12MP + 5MP sensors) at its rear, featuring phase-detection autofocus, LED flash, and 4K video recording. At the front, there a 20MP (IMX376 sensor) camera with LED flash and Full HD video recording.

The Redmi Note 5 is priced at Rs. 9,999 (3GB RAM + 32GB storage). The variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at Rs. 11,999.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro with  4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at Rs. 13,999. The variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage retails for Rs. 16,999.
