Do you own any of the following Xiaomi phonesRedmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi 5? If you answered that with a yes, well, you can now become a beta tester for the soon-to-be-public MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM for these handsets. Xiaomi has asked users to apply to become a beta tester for its upcoming MIUI 9 software to help the company iron out all the bugs before the software is ready for public release. The announcement asking people to beta test the upcoming software was posted on the official MIUI forum. The post makes a few things clear in case you are interested in becoming a beta tester. Here are the key points.

To start off things, note that this will be the Global ROM and not the customized localized version of MIUI 9. The tester could be located anywhere on the planet and the only hardware requirement is the possession of any of the aforementioned mobile phones. The language of communication will be English, and all of the beta testers will be required to use QQ Messenger for communication. This is a must since the team will not use any other platform for communication.

Other requirements:

  • Device(s): Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 5 Pro
  • Must be using latest MIUI Global Developer ROM
  • Should have interest to test and some knowledge about ROMs
  • Must be active on forum
  • Willing to discuss with other members of both QQ Beta group and forum

In case you are selected as a beta tester, you will have the following responsibilities on your shoulder.

  • Should join the QQ Beta Group as soon as possible
  • Flash the regular Beta updates
  • Should discuss with fellow members of the QQ Beta group
  • Answer to users’ query/posts in the bugs and beta team subforum
  • Report the issue(s)/bug(s) on time
  • Vote in weekly poll to recommend or not recommend the particular weekly build for the normal users/public use

In case you are interested in becoming a beta tester, note that the software, in this case, would be a beta version and is likely to be unstable and buggy. This is not meant for users who wish to have a smooth experience with their smartphones.

What you need to do next is to download the MIUI Global Forum app from the following Play Store link.

Once the app is installed, you will need to go to the home page and click the ‘recruitment’ button. Fill in all your details and hit the submit button. Once you send in all the details, you will receive a private message from the Forum which will either confirm or reject your application. Note that the last date for sending in applications for the beta tester is 23:59 1st. Mar 2018 (Beijing Time). So, make sure you apply for the same before the last date.
