When it comes to size and resolution, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ displays are no different than the Infinity displays on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8-inch 1440 x 2960 Quad HD+ resolution panel while the Galaxy S9+ sports a 6.2-inch display with the same Quad HD+ resolution. However, both smartphones use all-new panels that deliver higher brightness, improved color accuracy, superior outdoor visibility, and an overall more engaging viewing experience.
In terms of brightness, DisplayMate found the Galaxy S9 panel to achieve peak brightness of 1,130 nits with the Automatic Brightness turned on, a 20% improvement over the Galaxy S8. The exceptionally high peak brightness also helps with HDR performance. In case you aren’t aware, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ displays are Mobile HDR Premium certified by the UHD Alliance. Moving on to colors, the Galaxy S9 display covers a whopping 113% of DCI-P3 and 141% of sRGB/Rec.709 gamut, wider than any other display tested by DisplayMate so far. They also measured Absolute Color Accuracy at 0.7 JNCD, which is virtually indistinguishable from perfect. Another area where the Galaxy S9 display impresses is screen reluctance. The Galaxy S9 display has an average screen reflectance level of just 4.4%, the lowest that the firm has measured yet.
