In today’s comparison, we take a look at two soon to be launched handsets that are likely to compete with the OnePlus 5T when it comes to pricing and see how they fare against the current king of the high-end ring. The handsets involved in today’s comparison include the OnePlus 5T itself, the upcoming Mi Mix 2S from Xiaomi, and the Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018).

The OnePlus 5T boasts of an aluminium frame mated to a back panel made of the same metal. The display is an Optic AMOLED panel that measures 6.01-inches across and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. As you might have guessed, the display is in the taller 18:9 aspect ratio. This eventually translates into a PPI density score of 401.
The Mi Mix 2S is likely to feature either an aluminium or a ceramic body. Since we do not have many details of this unreleased product, most of the design aspects are based on pure speculation and leaked images. The display is likely to be an AMOLED panel that measures 5.99-inches across. It is also likely to sport a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels thereby offering a PPI density figure of 403.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) also gets an aluminium frame and a glass layer at the rear. The handset gets a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED display in the 18.5:9 aspect ratio. This display has a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels thereby endowing it with a PPI density score of 441.

The OnePlus 5T gets a 3,300 mAh battery.
The Mi Mix 2S is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm SDM845 Snapdragon 845 SoC – the successor to the SD 835. The handset is likely to come in an 8GB RAM version with 256GB of onboard storage. The graphics department will be handled by the Adreno 630 GPU. The phone is also likely to be powered by a 3,400 mAh battery.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018), the smaller version of the A8 Plus, is powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 7885 Octa Core SoC. The phone comes in two versions; a 3GB RAM +32GB version and a 4GB RAM +64GB version. The A8 (2018) uses the Mali-G71 GPU for graphics and has a 3000mAh battery under the hood.

The Mi Mix 2S is likely to feature a dual camera setup at the rear consisting of twin 12-megapixel cameras. The primary camera is likely to have an aperture of f/2.0. This camera will also support phase detection autofocus, OIS, and dual LED dual-tone flash. The front camera on the Mi Mix 2S is likely to be an 8-megapixel unit with f/2.0 aperture. The primary camera is likely to support video recording in 4K resolution at a maximum of 60fps. The front camera will also be able to record 1080p videos at 30fps.
The Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) gets a 16-megapixel primary camera at the rear with f/1.7 aperture. This camera also supports phase detection autofocus and an LED flash for low light images. At the front, the phone gets a dual camera setup consisting of a 16-megapixel, f/1.9 camera and a secondary 8-megapixel, f/1.9 secondary front camera. The OnePlus 5T is currently the only handset that is on sale in India. The 6GB version of the phone costs Rs.32,999 while the top version with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will set you back by Rs.37,999. The Mi Mix 2S is also likely to be priced just below the Rs.40,000 mark when it comes to India. As for the Galaxy A8 (2018), there is no word if the phone will ever make it to India. It’s larger sibling, the A8 Plus (2018), however, is already on sale here. Looking at the specs, we still feel the OnePlus 5T is the best bet among the three. We would, however, reserve a judgment only after the final pricing of the other two phones are revealed.
