
After launching two smash hit smartphones, the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Pro, Xiaomi is prepping for the launch of yet another Redmi series phone in India. The company is expected to announce the Redmi 5 for the Indian market soon. It will be successor to the Redmi 4, which was a huge hit in the country in the price segment of below Rs. 10,000. The Redmi 5 brings an improvement in terms of screen, offering a minimum bezel experience in the budget segment.
Redmi 5: Amazon Exclusive In India
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be available exclusively through Amazon.in in India, and Amazon has teased an image on its website which shows the device as coming soon. The teaser image also mentions #CompactPowerhouse, which is exactly what Xiaomi teased through its official Twitter account. The smartphone will be unveiled on March 14, 2018 in India.
Redmi 5: Features, Specs
The Redmi 5 was launched in China in December 2018. It features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution (720×1440 pixels), 18:9 aspect ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The phone’s design features a metal back, glass front, and plastic frame and ends. The phone runs Android 7.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9 operating system. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset with an octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at a maximum of 1.8GHz, the Adreno 506 GPU, and a 4G LTE modem. It comes in two variants: 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage, 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage. Storage space can be expanded using a microSD card, and it is compatible with up to 128GB microSD cards.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 comes with a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with an individual pixel size of 1.25µm, phase-detection autofocus, ƒ/2.2 aperture, LED flash, HDR, and Full HD 1080p video recording. The front-facing camera uses a 5-megapixel sensor with a fixed-focus lens, and 1080p video recording. There’s a fingerprint reader on the phone’s rear. It’s a dual-SIM smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity. Other connectivity features include GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, FM Radio, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2, IR port, microUSB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone port. The phone is powered by a 3300mAh battery, and it supports 5V/2A charging. The Redmi 5 is available in China in four colours: Black, Gold, Light Blue, Rose Gold. However, we can’t know for sure which colour variants of the phone would be made available in India.
Redmi 5: Expected Price In India
While the Redmi 5 price in India has not been revealed yet, going by the pricing of the Redmi 3 and the Redmi 4 series of smartphones in India, we expected it to be priced somewhere between Rs. 7,000 or Rs. 10,000 in the country.
