
This year’s MWC saw the launch of three new handsets from ASUS – the Zenfone 5, the Zenfone 5z, and the Zenfone 5 Lite. In this comparison article, we will take a close look at one of these handsets – the Zenfone 5 – and compare it with two other phones. The other two smartphones in this comparison are the Nokia 7 and the Moto X4 – both from 2017. Let us see how these three handsets compare against each other and if possible, pick one winner based on the spec sheet and pricing. The official price of the Zenfone 5 (2018), however, is yet to be officially announced by ASUS.
Asus Zenfone 5 (2018) vs. Nokia 7 vs. Moto X4: Design Display
The ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018) gets an aluminium body and comes with a 6.2-inch IPS-LCD display that has a resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels. The major design highlight of the phone is the iPhone X like notch (albeit slightly smaller in size) that adorns the top of the front fascia. The display is in the 18.5:9 aspect ratio and has a Corning Gorilla Glass layer for scratch resistance.
The Nokia 7 gets a layer of glass coating at the front and the back and comes with an aluminium frame. The phone gets a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels in the 16:9 aspect ratio. The PPi density score of this display stands at 424. The phone gets the Gorilla Glass 3 layer for scratch resistance.
The Moto X4 gets a glass coating at the rear and has an aluminium body as well. The phone has a 5.2-inch IPS LCD panel and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels in the 16:9 aspect ratio. Like the other handsets, the Moto X4 also gets a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 layer for scratch resistance.

The ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018) is powered by the brand new Qualcomm SDM636 Snapdragon 636 SoC that integrates the faster Adreno 509 GPU for graphics. The handset will be offered in two versions; one with 4GB of RAM and the other version with 6GB of RAM. Both these versions get 64GB of internal storage. The phone boasts of a 3300 mAh battery.
The Nokia 7 is powered by the Qualcomm SDM630 Snapdragon 630 chipset and uses the Adreno 508 GPU for graphics. The handset comes in two versions one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and the other with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The battery capacity of the Nokia 7 is 3,000 mAh.
The Moto X4 uses the Qualcomm SDM630 Snapdragon 630 chipset and is offered in three versions; a base 3GB +32GB version, a mid-range 4GB + 64GB version, and a 6GB+64GB variant. The phone also gets a 3,000 mAh battery.
Asus Zenfone 5 (2018) vs. Nokia 7 vs. Moto X4: OS Updates, software
The Asus Zenfone 5 (2018) runs ASUS’ ZenUI atop an Android 8 Oreo core. The phone, as you might have noticed, is already on the latest version of Android. It remains to be seen if it will continue to receive regular software updates.
The Nokia 7 comes with a near stock version of Android 7.1.1 preinstalled. Nokia has confirmed that they will release an official Android 8.0 update in the near future.
The Moto X4, like the Nokia 7, also ships with a near stock version of Android. All the versions of the Moto X4 are currently on Android Oreo 8.0 and are being in the process of being updated to Android 8.1
Asus Zenfone 5 (2018) vs. Nokia 7 vs. Moto X4: Price in India, Conclusion
Both the ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018) and the Nokia 7 are yet to be officially announced in India. The only handset among these three that you can currently buy is the Moto X4. The Moto X4, as mentioned earlier, comes in the following versions in India.
