The Asus Zenfone 5z and the Vivo V9 are the two newly launched smartphones that are yet to be officially announced in India. When launched in India, the Asus Zenfone 5z and the Vivo V9 will compete with the Honor View 10, and here is a comparison of the three devices.

The Honor View 10 launched in India on 4th January 2018 with a price tag of Rs. 29,999. As the Vivo V9 and the Asus Zenfone 5z aren’t launched in India yet, their exact pricing isn’t known. However, we expect the Vivo V9 to be priced at Rs. 32,999, while the Asus Zenfone 5z is expected to come with a price tag of Rs. 35,999.

All the three smartphones have a bezel-less display. While the Honor View 10 is the only device among the three to not have a notch at the top of its display. The notch at the top of the display gives the device a higher screen-to-body ratio, but at the same time, the notch looks a bit ugly. The Vivo V9 has the largest display of the lot; a 6.3-inch IPS LCD unit with Full HD+ resolution. The Asus Zenfone 5z houses a tad smaller display than the Vivo V9; it has a 6.2-inch IPS LCD unit with Full HD+ resolution and 95% DCI P3 coverage. The Honor View 10 has the smallest display among the three smartphones; a 5.99-inch IPS LCD unit with Full HD+ resolution. The Zenfone 5z is the only smartphone among the three to feature Corning Gorilla Glass protection.


All the three smartphones have a dual-camera setup for the primary camera. The Vivo V9 has a 16MP + 5MP dual camera setup with phase-detection autofocus and dual-LED flash. The Asus Zenfone 5z has a 12MP + 8MP dual-camera setup with phase-detection autofocus and dual-tone dual-LED flash. The Honor View 10 comes with a 16MP + 20MP dual-camera featuring phase-detection autofocus and LED flash. While the Vivo V9 and the Honor View 10 are limited to 4K video recording at 30FPS, the Zenfone 5z can record 4K videos and 60FPS. As for the front-facing cameras, the Vivo V9 has a 24MP unit, the Asus Zenfone 5z has an 8MP unit, and the Honor View 10 has a traditional 13MP sensor.

The Vivo V9 comes with Snapdragon 626 SoC. The SoC is mated to 4GB of RAM, and the smartphone has Android 8.1 Oreo OS customised with the company’s Funtouch OS 4.0 UI. Although the smartphone has ample amount of power to run everything smoothly, it has way lesser power than the Asus Zenfone 5z and the Honor View 10.

Speaking of the Asus Zenfone 5z, it comes with the Snapdragon 845 SoC, which is among the most powerful SoCs in a smartphone. The device is internationally available in three variants, one with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, another one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and the cheapest one has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The Asus Zenfone 5z runs Android 8.0 Oreo, and it comes with ASUS ZenUI 5.0 customisation. We haven’t yet tested the device, but we expect it to be super smooth and super fast.

The Honor View 10 has a respectable amount of power, thanks to the in-house developed Kirin 970 SoC. In India, the Honor View 10 is available with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo along with EMUI 8.0 customisation. Recently, the EMUI 8.0 has received a major update with which the users can unlock the smartphone with the help of face recognition.

Moving on to the battery, the Honor View 10 packs the largest battery among the three smartphones; it has a 3750mAh unit with 22.5W fast charging. The Asus Zenfone 5z has a 3300mAh unit with 18W fast charging, while the Vivo V9 has a 3260mAh battery unit without any fast charging technology.

Vivo V9 vs Asus Zenfone 5z vs Honor View 10: Verdict

The Vivo V9 has a very weak processor along with unimpressive camera hardware, which is why it lacks behind the Asus Zenfone 5z and the Honor View 10. Now, between the Asus Zenfone 5z and the Honor View 10, it all comes down to the personal preference. The Asus Zenfone 5z has more power, and the capability to record videos at a higher frame rate, whereas the Honor View 10 has a larger battery and it has doesn’t come with the ugly notch that the Zenfone 5z has. Also, the Honor View 10 will be a more affordable device compared to the Zenfone 5z. If you don’t mind the notch above the display, and if you don’t require the extended battery backup that Honor View 10 provides, you should go with the Asus Zenfone 5z.
