
The budget smartphone segment in India is expected to a see a lot of action in the next few months with several new launches lined up. Xiaomi is the current undisputed leader of the entry-level and budget segment in India. However, Motorola is expected to come up with several new handsets in the next few months and challenge the domination of Xiaomi. In today’s article we will compare two upcoming handsets from Motorola to an existing handset from the same company in the entry-level segment. The three handsets in the comparison today are the Moto E5 Play, the Moto E5, and the Moto E4 Plus. Of the three only the E4 Plus is currently on sale. The other two handsets are yet to be announced by them officially.
Moto E5 Play vs Moto E5 vs Moto E4 Plus: Design, Display
The Moto E5 Play when launched would be the first ever ‘Play’ series handset from Motorola in the E-Series. The spec sheet of the handset is yet to be revealed. It is expected to sport a 5.2-inch display in the 16:9 aspect ratio. The resolution is expected to be 720 x 1280 pixels.
The Moto E5 is likely to sport an aluminium body and will feature a 5-inch display in the standard 16:9 aspect ratio.The handset is also likely to get a Corning Gorilla Glass coating for scratch resistance.
The Moto E4 Plus gets an aluminium body and has a large 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The display is in the standard 16:9 aspect ratio and comes with a Gorilla Glass layer for scratch resistance.

Let us now check out the hardware specs of these three handsets. As mentioned earlier, two of the handsets in this comparison is yet to be officially announced.
The Moto E5 Play is expected to feature an entry level SoC and is likely to come with 2GB of RAM and at least 16GB of internal storage. The phone will get a microSD card slot for adding additional storage capacity. As for the camera, the handset is likely to get an 8-megapixel primary shooter and a 5-megapixel secondary camera at the front for selfies and video calls.
The Moto E5 will also get an entry-level SoC. Since the official specs are not out yet, we do not know if it will get a Mediatek chipset or a Qualcomm processor. The phone is likely to get 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space. The handset will get a microSD card slot for additional memory. The camera is likely to be an 8-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary front camera with LED flash.
The Moto E4 Plus uses a Mediatek MT6737 SoC that houses a quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 processor and a Mali T720 GPU for graphics. The handset comes in 16GB and 32GB version with both the versions getting 3GB of RAM. The handset comes with a 13-megapixel. f/2.0 primary camera with support for autofocus and LED flash. The front camera is a 5-megapixel shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The handset can record 720p HD videos at 30fps. The phone gets a large 5000 mAh battery.

Both the Moto E5 Play and the Moto E5 will come with Android 8.0 Oreo preinstalled. As the case is with most Motorola smartphones, these handsets will come with a near stock version of Android. Both the handsets also get the latest version of Android as of this writing. It remains to be seen if the devices will get an official nod for Android 0.
The Moto E4 Plus runs a near stock version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. There is no official word of an update to Android 8 Oreo.

Since the Moto E5 Play and the Moto E5 are yet to be announced, we do not have the prices of these handsets. Both are expected to be priced under the Rs.10,000 mark.As for the Moto E4 Plus, the 32GB version of the handset is sold for Rs.9,490.
