Until a few weeks back, most rumors and reports regarding the second generation iPhone SE were all suggesting that it will not borrow any design traits from the latest iPhones and will instead feature a design more in common with the original iPhone SE. However, latest leaks suggest that may not actually be the case. An alleged hands-on video showing the iPhone SE 2 had surfaced online recently, revealing an iPhone X-like design with a similar notch on the top of the display. Design sketches of the iPhone SE 2 obtained by BGR seem to hint at the same possibility.

iPhone SE 2: iPhone X Inspired Design Tipped

The latest leaks suggest the iPhone SE 2 will look pretty much be a mini version of the iPhone X in terms of design. It will have a similar “bezel-less” front with rounded corners and a notch on the top. Since the bezels are going to be trimmed down significantly, the device will not have a physical home button on the front, which also means no Touch ID. Instead, it appears the iPhone SE 2 will come with the Face ID 3D facial recognition feature. Another key difference between the iPhone SE and the iPhone SE 2 will be the omission of the headphone jack. Doubts still remain over the build materials. While some rumors suggest the handset could feature an aluminum unibody construction, other hint at the possibility of a glass back. If it does come with a glass back, there is a good chance the iPhone SE 2 will offer wireless charging support just like the latest iPhones.

iPhone SE 2: Rumored Specs

If the latest rumors are to be believed, the iPhone SE 2 will feature a 4.2-inch sized display, slightly larger than the 4-inch display on the iPhone SE. The resolution, unfortunately, remains a complete mystery at this point. However, if the iPhone SE 2 does feature a notch on the top, it is likely that the display will likely have a unique aspect ratio of 19:9 or 19.5:9 like the iPhone X. And since the iPhone SE 2 is expected to have an impressive screen-to-body ratio, it should actually be more compact than the first generation iPhone SE despite packing a larger display. Powering the iPhone SE 2 could be Apple’s A10 chipset, the same chip that powers the iPhone 7. In terms of memory, the device could come with 2GB of RAM and two storage variants – 32GB and 128GB.

In the camera department, the iPhone SE 2 is rumored to feature a 12MP resolution iSight camera on the back and a 5MP resolution FaceTime camera on the front. Fueling the internals of the device could be a 1700mAh capacity battery, very slightly bigger than the 1624 mAh capacity battery inside the iPhone SE.

iPhone SE 2: Launch Date, Expected Pricing

Earlier today, Apple sent out invites to an event scheduled to be held on March 27 in Chicago. It is being speculated that the Cupertino-based firm could announce a more affordable MacBook Air, a new iPad and the iPhone SE 2 at the upcoming event. In case the iPhone SE 2 doesn’t show up at the event next week, the device is likely to be made official at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June this year.  If the iPhone SE 2 does end up going official at WWDC 2018, we expect it to go on sale by the end of June in most markets as the event will be held from 4-8 June. As for pricing, rumors out of China claim the iPhone SE 2 is going to be priced at 4,000 yuan, which roughly converts to Rs.41,195 based on the current exchange rate. We aren’t very sure if the iPhone SE 2 can actually be a success if it ends up being priced that high. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had in fact predicted earlier this year that the second generation iPhone SE model will have a lower price than its predecessor, if at all Apple decides to launch it this year.
