Sister companies Oppo and Vivo are planning to launch their respective smartphones – the Oppo F7 and the Vivo V9 in India in the next few days. Both the handsets are expected to be mid-range smartphones targeted at India’s selfie-centric crowd. While the prices of both the handsets remain under wraps, for the time being, they are both expected to be priced between the Rs.20,000 to Rs.25,000 mark. In this comparison, we will take a closer look at the Oppo F7 and the Vivo V7 and compare them both to the Mi 7 – another upcoming handset – this time from Xiaomi. Since all these handsets are yet to be officially announced, we do not have access to the official spec sheets. We will, however, go ahead with the comparison based on what we currently know about these three devices. Note that the information posted in this article could change once the official specs of all three handsets are out.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9 vs Mi 7: Design, Display
The Oppo F7 and the Vivo V9 have a common design trait that would, perhaps, be the first thing you see when you take a look at them. Both these handsets come with an iPhone X-like notch on the display.
While the Oppo F7 is rumoured to feature a 6.28-inch IPS, LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels, the Vivo V9 might sport a near-identical 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel with the same 180 x 2280 pixels resolution. Both these handsets could also feature an aluminium body and toughened glass covering the large displays. Both the displays will be in the new 18:9 aspect ratio.
The third handset in the comparison is the Xiaomi Mi7. This new handset is likely to get a toughened glass layer both at the front and the rear. It is also rumoured to get a steel frame and would also be splash resistant. As for the display, this is likely to be a 5.65-inch IPS LCD panel that gets a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels in the 18:9 aspect ratio. This translates to a PPI density score of 427.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9 vs Mi 7: Specifications, Hardware
We currently have very little information as far as the hardware specifications of the Oppo F7 is concerned. It is, however, expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chipset and will come with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The handset is also likely to get a 3,300 mAh battery. As far as the imaging capabilities are concerned, the Oppo F7 could get a dual camera setup at the rear (16-megapixel) and a 24-megapixel front-facing selfie camera.
As for the Vivo V9, we are told that this smartphone could likely be powered by a Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor. We are still in the dark as far as the confirmed specifications of the handset are concerned. It is likely to come in a 4GB RAM + 64GB version. As for the camera, the V9 could get a dual 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel camera setup at the rear and a 24-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies. The phone is also likely to support 4K video recording using the primary camera.
The Xiaomi Mi 7 is likely to be powered by the powerful, flagship class Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and will use the Adreno 630 GPU for graphics. The phone could be offered in two versions – a 6GB RAM + 64GB version and an 8GB RAM + 128GB variant. As for the camera, it is expected that that phone will get a dual camera setup at the rear consisting of 16-megapixel lenses at the rear. The primary lens could have an aperture of f/1.7. The secondary lens will be used as a zoom lens and will support optical zoom. The phone could also support phase detection autofocus, and a dual LED dual-tone flash.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9 vs Mi 7: OS Updates, Software
The Oppo F7 and the Vivo V9 are both expected to run the newest version of Android 8 Oreo at the time of their respective launches. Both the devices, however, will use their own customised version of Android – ColorOS on Oppo and FunTouch OS on the Vivo. The Mi 7 is also expected to run Android 8 Oreo underneath a MIUI 9 layer. In fact, all the three handsets would be on the current newest version of Android. It remains to be seen whether they all receive timely updates to newer versions of Android.

We will get to know the confirmed specs and prices of the Oppo F7 and the Vivo V9 in the next few days. As for the Mi 7, it would be a while before the phone officially comes to India. Looking at the specs alone, the Mi 7 clearly has the better hardware. However, we will reserve a judgment only after all three handsets are available in India and we also have their confirmed price with us.
