It’s been just over four months since OnePlus launched its current flagship smartphone the OnePlus 5T globally. The 5T is a mid-life update to the ‘original’ OnePlus 5 that was announced back in mid-2017 as a successor to the OnePlus 3T.
Now that we are almost approaching mid-2018, speculation is rife over the possibility of OnePlus launching a successor to the OnePlus 5T as well. In fact, there is a good chance that we already have an idea as to how the OnePlus 6 would look. Recently, OnePlus’ sister company Oppo officially unveiled its new Android smartphone – the Oppo R15 in China. If you are wondering what the OnePlus 6 has to do with the launch of the R15, here’s a bit of a history lesson.
OnePlus and Oppo Design history
Over the past few years, OnePlus’ flagship handsets have had a history of resembling its ‘brothers’ from Oppo. For example, the OnePlus 5 bore a close resemblance to the Oppo R11. The OnePlus 5T, on the other hand, was basically a slightly modified version of the Oppo R11S. Therefore, when Oppo took covers off the R15, the latest iPhone X Clone, earlier this week, tech pundits were certain that this is what the OnePlus 6 would eventually look like when it is announced sometime later this year. Like was the case with the Oppo R11 and the R11S, both of which came with mid-range specifications, the R15 also gets a mid-range SoC. The OnePlus version of the handset, however, will feature a flagship class (most likely the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845) SoC and is likely to get oodles of RAM as well.
OnePlus 6: Display, Design
The OnePlus is expected to feature an aluminium body. The most distinctive aspect of the handset, however, would be the iPhone-like notch on the top of the display. This notch is also present on the Oppo R15 and is likely to integrate the front-facing camera and a couple of other sensors there. When launched, the OnePlus 6 is sure to turn heads. As for the display, this is likely to be a 6.28-inch AMOLED panel in the 18:9 aspect ratio. The resolution is expected to be 1080 x 2280 pixels with a PPI density score of 401.
OnePlus 6: Specifications, hardware
The OnePlus 6 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. The graphics will be taken care of by the Adreno 630 GPU.While we do not know this yet, expect the OnePlus 6 to ship with 6GB of RAM and at least 64GB of storage. There will almost definitely be a 128GB version that will whip with 8GB of RAM. The battery capacity is likely to remain similar to that Of the existing OnePlus 5T. We do not have detailed information regarding the camera specs on the OnePlus 6. It is however expected to feature a dual camera setup at the rear, and a high-resolution front-facing camera at the front with support or face unlock. The OnePlus 6 will be capable of recording 4K videos at 60fps with the rear camera and 1080p videos using the front camera. Detailed information about the camera setup, however, remain under wraps for now. Again, these are the speculated specifications of the OnePlus 6, and the information in this article should be taken with the traditional pinch of salt.
OnePlus 6: Price in India Leaked, Expected Launch date
There is still some time left for OnePlus to announce the OnePlus 6. A new image has leaked, which claims that the OnePlus 6 could be priced at $749 (approximately, Rs. 48,875).
The handset is also expected to be a marginal update over the existing handset. The OnePlus 6 could see the light of the day before June 2018. The OnePlus 6 would be a great buy if the handset is priced under the psychologically crucial Rs. 40,000 mark in India.
