Xiaomi recently announced the budget segment Redmi 5, a few weeks after the company launched the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. The follow up to the Redmi 4 seems pretty great, at least on paper, so we decided to compare the device with two other smartphones. We’re talking about the Asus Zenfone Max and the Micromax Bharat 5 Pro. All three of these phones fall in the same pricing segment so it’s expected that people will try and decide among these devices. So read on to know more about the various features and specs of these phones and which one of the three is the best one.
Redmi 5 vs Asus Zenfone 5 Max vs Micromax Bharat 5 Pro: Price in India
The Redmi 5 is available in three configurations like its predecessor, the Redmi 4: a 2GB+16GB version for Rs. 7,999, a 3GB+32GB for Rs. 8,999, and a 4GB+64GB priced at Rs. 10,999. For this comparison, we chose the base model. Next up we have the Asus Zenfone Max which was launched in August 2015 and carries a price tag of Rs. 7,405. Lastly, we have the spanking-new Micromax Bharat 5 Pro, which made its debut earlier this month (March 2018) and is priced at Rs. 7,999 currently.
Redmi 5 vs Asus Zenfone Max vs Micromax Bharat 5 Pro: Display
The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display and offers a resolution of 720×1440 pixels at an aspect ratio of 18:9. It has a density of 282 pixels per inch (ppi). Comparatively, the Asus Zenfone Max offers a resolution of 720×1280 pixels at an aspect ratio of 16:9 on its 5.5-inch LCD display. Lastly, we have the Bharat 5 Pro from Micromax that features a 5.2-inch LCD display with a resolution of 720×1280 with 282ppi. This phone, too, offers an aspect ratio of 16:9. Unlike the other two, it does not feature Gorilla Glass protection for its display.
Redmi 5 vs Asus Zenfone Max vs Micromax Bharat 5 Pro: Performance
Under the hood of the Redmi 5 is a highly efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core 1.8GHz processor. The Asus Zenfone Max is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, in comparison. The Micromax Bharat 5 Pro, on the other hand, is driven by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor.
The Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9.0, which is equivalent to Android Nougat, whereas the Asus Zenfone Max runs on Android Marshmallow, via its ZenUI shell. The Micromax Bharat 5 Pro, in comparison, comes with Android Nougat, like the Redmi 5.
In terms of memory, the Redmi 5 offers 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, which is exactly what the Asus Zenfone Max offers as well. The Micromax Bharat 5 Pro comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage space, in comparison.
Redmi 5 vs Asus Zenfone Max vs Micromax Bharat 5 Pro: Camera
The Redmi 5 is equipped with a 12MP f/2.2 shooter on the rear that features phase detection autofocus, whereas the Asus Zenfone Max sports a 13MP f/2.0 primary camera with laser autofocus. The Micromax Bharat 5 Pro packs a 13MP rear camera on the rear. While the Redmi 5 and Asus Zenfone Max let you shoot full HDS videos at 30 frames per second, the Bharat 5 Pro only shoots 720p videos at the same frame rate.
On the front, all three phones feature 5MP selfie shooters.
Redmi 5 vs Asus Zenfone Max vs Micromax Bharat 5 Pro: Verdict
Among the three, the Redmi 5 is easily the best choice. It has an excellent processor and a beautiful display. It does stumble a bit on the battery front as it comes with a 3300mAh cell whereas the Asus Zenfone Max and Micromax Bharat 5 Pro both feature 5000mAh batteries, but in all other ways, the Redmi 5 is definitely the best choice among these three phones. So if you ever need to choose, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 it is!
