Chinese smartphone major Oppo is all set to launch its new smartphone the Oppo F7 in India on March 26. Its sister company Vivo already released another smartphone – the Vivo V7 in India a few days back – on March 23. Both these smartphones have garnered a lot of attention in the recent past because of their common design element – the (in) famous iPhone X notch at the top of their respective displays. In today’s comparison, we will take a closer look at these two handsets and compare it with the ASUS Zenfone 5z – another handset that comes with a notch. Before we start off the comparison, note that we are still in the dark as far as the confirmed specifications of the Oppo F7 is concerned. We will, of course, update this article with the confirmed specs once they are out.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9 vs Asus Zenfone 5Z: Design, Display
As mentioned earlier, the first thing that most people will note about the design of the three handsets in this comparison will be the notch on the top of its display.
The Oppo F7 is likely to feature an aluminium body and is rumoured to come with a 6.2-inch IPS LCD display in the 19:9 aspect ratio. While this is not confirmed, the display resolution could be 2280 x 1080 pixels.
The Vivo V9 is featuring a 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel and is likely to boast of a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The panel will also most likely feature a Gorilla Glass 5 layer for scratch resistance and durability. Like the other handsets here, the V7 will also get an aluminium body.
The ASUS Zenfone 5z also gets an iPhone X-like notch at its top, albeit much smaller in size compared to the original. The handset also gets an aluminium body and toughened glass at the front. The display on the Zenfone 5z is an IPS LCD panel that measures 6.2-inches diagonally and has a resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels in the 19:9 aspect ratio. The display also gets Gorilla Glass 10 for scratch resistance.

We do not know the confirmed specs of the Oppo F7. It is speculated that the phone will use the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset and will come with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The handset is also likely to get a 3,400 mAh battery. The primary camera on the Oppo F7 is likely to be a dual 16-megapixel set up at the rear and a 25-megapixel front-facing camera. We are still in the dark as far as the confirmed specifications of the handset are concerned. It runs with 3260 mAh battery.
The Vivo V9 is powered by the Qualcomm MSM8953-Pro Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor. It is available in a 4GB RAM + 64GB version. As for the camera, the V9 could get a dual 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel camera setup at the rear and a 24-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies. The phone is also likely to support 4K video recording using the primary camera.
The ASUS Zenfone 5z will be powered by the flagship class Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and will use the Adreno 630 GPU for graphics. It will be offered in the following variants;
- 4GB RAM +64GB
- 6GB RAM +128GB
- 8GB RAM + 256GB
The handset will ship with a 3,300 mAh battery.
The imaging department will be handled by a 12-megapixel plus 8-megapixel camera setup at the rear with f/1.8 and f/2.0 apertures respectively. The secondary camera also acts as a zoom lens. The front camera is an 8-megapixel. f/2.0 unit.
Oppo F7 vs Vivo V9 vs Asus Zenfone 5Z: OS Updates, Software
The Oppo F7 is likely to come with Oppo’s own ColorOS running on top of an Android 8.0 Oreo core at the time of its launch. It will be already on the latest version of Android. The Vivo V7 is slated to run Vivo’s FunTouch OS – also based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The ASUS Zenfone 5z runs ZenUI 5.0 atop an Android 8 Oreo core, and like the Oppo F7 will be on the newest Android version at the time of its launch.

Of all three handsets in this comparison – the Oppo F7 and the ASUS Zenfone 5z are yet to be officially launched in India. Oppo F7 India Launch date is tomorrow – March 26. ASUS Zenfone 5Z India Launch is still unknown. Their prices, for the same reason, is currently unknown. Vivo V9 is priced at Rs.22,990. Specs wise, the Zenfone 5z is the most powerful among the three. If ASUS decides to price the 5z sensibly, it could be the best handset among the three options listed here. We will, however, reserve a final judgment only after the prices of other two handsets are revealed.
