The Redmi Note 5 Pro is currently available in 4GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/64GB storage variants priced at Rs. 13,999 and Rs. 16,999 respectively. It is exclusively up for sale via Flipkart and Xiaomi’s website Mi.com. The Lenovo S5, on the other hand, is yet to launch in India but its expected pricing is Rs. 13,999 similar to the base variant of the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is priced at Rs. 13,990 and is only listed on Samsung’s website for now.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a 5.99-inch full-HD screen bearing 1080×2160 pixels resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D curved glass. The Lenovo S5 features a 5.7-inch full-HD+ IPS display at 1080×2160 pixels resolution with 2.5D curved glass encased in a full metal body. The Galaxy J7 Prime 2 packs a 5.5-inch TFT LCD Full HD display with 1080×1920 pixels resolution, 2.5D Curved Corning Gorilla Glass Covering, and 16:9 aspect ratio.
In the display segment, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes up as a winner with a bigger display and better resolution. The other two do not miss out on much, but are slightly lower than the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Hardware-wise, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes powered by a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC paired with Adreno 506 GPU, 4GB RAM/6GB RAM, and 64GB storage that can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. It runs Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 out-of-the-box.
The Lenovo S5, on the other hand, comes powered by a a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. The phone runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based ZUI 3.7, a gesture-based UI to reduce the usage of capacitive buttons.
Lastly, the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is powered by a 1.6GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 Exynos 7870 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage that can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. It runs Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.
In the software segment, the Lenovo S5 fairs better than the Redmi Note 5 Pro because of its software that is based on Oreo instead of Nougat. While the Redmi Note 5 Pro surfaces as winner in the hardware segment with its Snapdragon 636 SoC.

Concerning optics, the Redmi Note 5 Pro sports a 12MP+5MP dual rear camera setup with the primary sensor bearing f/2.2 aperture and 1.25-micron pixel size and the secondary sensor with 1.12-micron pixel size and f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera gets features such as PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus), EIS (Electronics Image Stabilisation), and an LED flash. There is a 20MP selfie camera on the front with Sony IMX376 sensor and an LED selfie light.
On the other hand, the Lenovo S5 packs a 13MP+13MP dual camera setup on the rear clubbed with dual colour temperature flash and f/2.2 aperture. There is a 16MP fixed-focus selfie camera on the front with f/2.2 aperture and 80.2-degree wide-angle lens.
The Galaxy J7 Prime 2 bears 13MP cameras at both front and rear with ƒ/1.9 aperture lens and 1080p video recording capabilities.
The Lenovo S5 is definitely a better choice for its better rear camera setup while the Redmi Note 5 Pro takes the cake for its selfie camera.

Comparing all the specs, we can say that overall the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a better buy with its better screen and hardware but the Lenovo S5 is a close competition. The Galaxy J7 Prime 2 fair rather disappointingly in front of the other two phones. Sadly, the Lenovo S5 is yet to launch in India so if you need to buy a smartphone urgently then the Redmi Note 5 Pro is the ultimate buy.
