Xiaomi had unveiled the Mi MIX smartphone in 2016 with a ground-breaking design and a bezel-less screen, surprising tech pundits, competitors, and consumers alike. Today, the company has unveiled the third-generation Mi MIX series smartphone in China. The Mi MIX 2s is an upgrade over last year’s impressive Mi MIX 2 (review), and brings some major improvements in terms of camera and processing power.
The Mi MIX 2s now comes with a 12MP dual-camera at its rear and the extremely powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. However, that’s not the only area where Xiaomi brought improvements in its flagship smartphone. The Mi MIX 2s also brings support for Qi wireless charging, now that most other brands, including Apple, have been equipping their phones with the premium charging feature.

Mi MIX 2s: Expected Price In India
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s is priced at CNY 3,299 (approximately, Rs. 34,000) in China for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant. The variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage costs CNY 3,599 (approximately, Rs. 37,000). The price for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant, which also comes with a free wireless charger, is CNY 3,999 (approximately, Rs. 37,000) in the country. It will go on sale in China on April 2, 2018.
The phone will be available in two colours: Black and Ceramic White. We come to know that Xiaomi will try to launch the Mi MIX 2s in India within a month of its Chinese launch. While the India price is not known yet, going by the pricing of the Mi MIX 2 in India, we expect the device to be priced below the Rs. 40,000 mark.

Mi MIX 2s: Features
Unlike some rumours had claimed earlier, there is no screen notch on the screen of the Mi MIX 2s, and the company has followed the same design which we saw with the Mi MIX 2 last year. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s features a 5.9-inch IPS LCD screen with bezel-less design, Full HD+ resolution, and 18:9 aspect ratio. There are Sunlight Mode and Reading Mode for using the smartphone under strong sunlight and while reading text, respectively. It uses a ceramic body with glass front and rear.
Coming to the biggest upgrade of the phone, the Mi MIX 2s features a dual-12MP rear-facing camera. The primary camera among the two uses Sony’s IMX363 sensor with 1.4µm pixel size, 4-axis optical image stabilisation (OIS), dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus, dual-tone LED flash, and 4K video recording. Thanks to the secondary camera sensor with 2x optical zoom, the Mi MIX 2s can click images with background blur effect. Moreover, the artificial intelligence (AI) mechanism on the phone can identify various objects and scenes in the frame, and then adjust the camera settings such as colours, contrast, and white balance automatically for better and clearer images.
For better dynamic range and less noise in images, the phone uses Xiaomi’s multi-frame noise reduction algorithms, similar to Google’s HDR+. The phone can also record videos at Full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels) at 60 frames per second and HD resolution (1280×720 pixels) at 120 frames per second. Sadly, it doesn’t support 4K videos at 60fps, even though other phones with the Snapdragon 845 processor can achieve the feat. There’s a 5MP front-facing camera on the phone which can also record 1080p videos. Thanks to AI, the phone can click images with DSLR-like background blur even with a single front-facing camera sensor. The Mi MIX 2s’ camera received a DxO Mark score of 97 points (101 points in still imaging and 88 points in video).
It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, and comes in three memory variants. The entry-level variant features 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The mid-priced variant has 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The higher-priced variant features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. There’s no microSD card slot, though, so you can’t expand the storage space on the phone. There’s a fingerprint reader at the rear of the phone, which comes with 18K gold accent. The phone also comes packed with a 3400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 as well as wireless charging. This is the first Xiaomi phone that supports wireless charging.
Connectivity features include dual-nano SIM card slot, 4G LTE and VoLTE, dual-band gigabit Wi-Fi (with MU-MIMO and 2×2 MIMO), Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB Type-C port. Similar to the Mi MIX 2 and most other high-end phones, the Mi MIX 2s lacks a dedicated 3.5mm headphone port. However, the company is bundling a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone port adapter with the phone’s box. The company has also launched its own 7.5W Qi wireless charging station, and is priced at CNY 99 (approximately, Rs. 1,020).
