Mi MIX 2s: India Launch, Expected Pricing
The Mi MIX 2 was launched in India a few weeks after its official unveiling in China. If Xiaomi does plan to launch the Mi MIX 2s in India, we would expect the India launch event to be held sometime next month. We should find out more about Xiaomi’s plans of bringing the Mi MIX 2s to the Indian market in the coming weeks. In China, latest rumors claim the Mi MIX 2s will be priced at 3,299 yuan (Rs.34,000 approx.) for the base variant. The Mi MIX 2, for reference, starts at 3,099 yuan (Rs.32,000 approx.) in China for the base variant. Since the Mi MIX 2 was launched in India at Rs.35,999, the Mi MIX 2s’ India pricing should also be higher. We expect the Mi MIX 2s is likely to be priced under Rs.40,000 at launch in India, putting it head-to-head against the highly popular OnePlus 5T 8GB RAM variant. With a newer Snapdragon 845 SoC inside and a few other advantages, the Mi MIX 2s could well pose a real challenge to the OnePlus flagship in the Indian market.
Mi MIX 2s: Expected Features and Specs
The Mi MIX 2s, going by the official teaser images released by Xiaomi in the recent past, will appear very similar to its predecessor from the outside. However, we do expect to see slightly thinner bezels and thus a higher screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s is rumored to feature a 6-inch display featuring Full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, with some sources hinting at the possibility of a switch to an AMOLED panel instead of the IPS LCD panel used on the Mi MIX 2. In terms of build, the smartphone will apparently feature a four-sided curved ceramic body like its predecessor.
Since it is a flagship smartphone, the Mi MIX 2s will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, the default choice for Android flagships releasing this year. As suggested by the smartphone’s AnTuTu score of 273741, Xiaomi appears to have done a great job optimizing the Snapdragon 845 on the Mi MIX 2s. The 64-bit 10nm processor will be paired with 6GB of RAM in the base variant and 8GB of RAM in the more expensive variant. In terms of storage, the smartphone is likely to be offered in 128GB and 256GB options.
In the camera department, Mi MIX 2s is expected to be a pretty significant upgrade over its predecessor. Instead of a single-lens camera on the Mi MIX 2, the Mi MIX 2s will have a dual-camera setup at the back with AI-enhanced features similar to what we have seen on Huawei’s flagship Mate 10 series. The dual-cameras on the smartphone will boast automatic scene recognition as well as super slow-motion video capture at up to 1080p Full HD resolution. Apart from the AI-powered dual cameras, the smartphone will have the face unlock feature, possibly employing more advanced hardware compared to previous Xiaomi smartphones with the feature. A fingerprint sensor will also be present, positioned on the back of the handset.
While the smartphone’s battery capacity hasn’t been confirmed, the Mi MIX 2S is more or less confirmed to offer wireless charging support, a feature that the Mi MIX 2 lacks. In terms of software, the Xiaomi flagship will run on the Android Oreo operating system with the company’s MIUI 9.5 overlay on top.
